German ‘Blood Money’ Mitigation Corrupts Criminal Justice

Acceptance of Sharia-style dispute resolution as a partial punishment sets a dangerous precedent.

When a Berlin court reduced the manslaughter sentence of a Somali man because he had paid ‘blood money’ to his victim’s family, the story passed largely under the radar of the media. Yet it speaks to a dangerous development.

Western Europeans are growing increasingly alert to the threat of ‘two-tier justice’ and ‘two-tier policing,’ where ethnicity or political opinions (or both) serve as the basis for differential treatment within criminal law. This observation could be applied to all levels of decision-making, ranging from police deployments and arrests to bail conditions and sentencing.

Mystery surrounds the Jeffrey Epstein files after Bondi claims ‘tens of thousands’ of videos

WASHINGTON (AP) — It was a surprising statement from Attorney General Pam Bondi as the Trump administration promises to release more files from its sex trafficking investigation of Jeffrey Epstein: The FBI, she said, was reviewing “tens of thousands of videos” of the wealthy financier “with children or child porn.”

The comment, made to reporters at the White House days after a similar remark to a stranger with a hidden camera, raised the stakes for President Donald Trump’s administration to prove it has in its possession previously unseen compelling evidence. That task is all the more pressing after an earlier document dump that Bondi hyped angered elements of Trump’s base by failing to deliver new bombshells and as administration officials who had promised to unlock supposed secrets of the so-called government “deep state” struggle to fulfill that pledge.

Huh?

The digital services tax was bad policy, but killing it now makes us look terribly weak

Maybe Prime Minister Mark Carney’s elbows were getting tired. He kept them up the entire campaign, and well, that was enough to get the job done (the job, notably, being winning the election – not standing up to U.S. President Donald Trump). And now that the election is over, Mr. Carney has allowed himself some moments of rest.

Trump celebrates Canada Day

Today is Canada Day, which for 115 years was known as Dominion Day and soon will be known as Statehood Day. The American flag will have 50 stars surrounding a white maple leaf. It will be lovely—one Big Beautiful State.

On Friday, Donald Trump tweeted on Truth Social, “We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country.

There’s no one way to be a Canadian: Commie Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault

OTTAWA — Steven Guilbeault, federal minister of identity and culture, came to his new job just as the whole country was looking at itself in the mirror.

Guilbeault took on the new ministry — which replaces the old heritage ministry and takes up responsibility for Parks Canada — as U.S. President Donald Trump was ramping up a ruinous trade war and talking about annexing his country’s neighbour to the north.

Perhaps the very last person I want to hear from on Canada Day.

Albanian with 50 convictions can stay in UK as crimes ‘not extreme enough’

An Albanian burglar with almost 50 convictions has been allowed to stay in the UK after a judge found his crimes were not “extreme” enough.

Zenel Beshi’s “serious and prolific” offending saw him jailed for six years in Italy for robbery, theft and false imprisonment, an immigration tribunal was told.

He failed to disclose these convictions when he arrived in Britain, however, said the Home Office. It told the tribunal that he posed a “genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat” to the UK and should be deported.

Why Do 1,000 Refugees Get Free Wimbledon Tickets While Long Suffering Locals Get None?

Glancing upwards only to spot a drone hovering over their gardens last week was the last straw for residents of Welford Place SW19, whose homes overlook the much lauded All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC). While the eye in the sky probably belongs to an accredited broadcaster scouting out local colour ahead of the annual championships, the intrusion felt all too typical of the approach that the Wimbledon high command itself takes to its near neighbours. The annual championships may charm a world audience with its cultivated celebration of grass court tennis, strawberries and a nostalgic evocation of English fair play, but for neighbours this image, as carefully manicured as its famous lawns, is virtually shredded. From a highly controversial planning application to a woke offer of 1,000 free tickets for refugees, local Wimbledonians feel excluded as never before from the international spectacle on their doorsteps.

Why some Canadians are choosing Trump over their country … or… Ignore my TDS brainwashed daughter

His immigration rhetoric and nationalism are luring some “far-right” conservatives in Canada.

While getting my Ontario driver’s license in 2023, I was asked to write a description of the vehicle and then wait in my car for the examiner to find me. I had to use my mother’s car, so, red-faced, I wrote “Chevy SUV, ‘WWG1WGA’ bumper sticker.” The acronym stood for “Where We Go One, We Go All,” the far-right, QAnon-inspired slogan that became a battle cry of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots.

In mainstream Canada, these slogans were virtually unheard of, and the examiner didn’t seem to notice the sticker’s connotations. My mother and other conservative pro-Donald Trump Canadians, however, were parroting these slogans from online conspiracy-fueled echo chambers and what they saw as enviable nationalism. With a brewing trade war between the United States and Canada, pro-Trump Canadians, like my family, are now being forced to choose between the president or their country — and, disturbingly, some are choosing Trump. In his latest volley, the president on Friday abruptly ended trade talks with Canada, saying he would issue new tariffs soon.
