Italian opposition file complaint over far-right party’s use of ‘racist’ AI images

Opposition parties in Italy have complained to the communications watchdog about a series of AI-generated images published on social media by deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini’s far-right party, calling them “racist, Islamophobic and xenophobic”, the Guardian has learned.

The centre-left Democratic party (PD), with the Greens and Left Alliance, filed a complaint on Thursday with Agcom, the Italian communications regulatory authority, alleging the fake images used by the League contained “almost all categories of hate speech”.

A Pakistani jihadist cannot be deported despite renouncing his British citizenship because it would breach his human rights, official papers suggest.

Irfan Khalid was one of the leaders of a gang who plotted to carry out a 7/7-style mass terror attack in Birmingham and turn the city into a ‘little war zone’.

The conspiracy was smashed during Britain’s biggest anti-terror investigation, with Khalid sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2013.

West Kelowna golf course operators want restitution after on-course fight

The owners of a golf course in West Kelowna say they are demanding restitution from those involved in a physical altercation on their course earlier this week — an incident they describe as a desecration of the property and a breach of community values.

The confrontation at Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy was caught on video Monday and has since circulated online. It shows a heated dispute between two groups of golfers, escalating into shouting, shoving and punches, as others attempt to intervene.

The course is located on Westbank First Nation land and is under Indigenous ownership.

The former president held a private seminar with 50 politics students that was kept secret until his arrival. But when word got out, a group of pro-Palestinian students assembled to protest outside the building.

Christian devotees were nailed to crosses and left covered in blood after self-flagellation during a re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion to mark Good Friday.

Swathes of Filipinos and foreign tourists flocked to the northern village of San Pedro Cutud in the Philippines to witness Ruben Enaje, 64, and two other devotees be nailed to wooden crosses. This is the 36th time Enaje has participated in the re-enactment.

Actors donning Roman soldier costumes hammered the carpenter’s palms with two-inch nails and ropes and fabric supported their bodies as they were raised on the crosses.
