Islamic State-supporting illegal immigrant avoided detention over mental health

An Islamic State-supporting illegal migrant was allowed to leave a detention centre after judges found that being confined was bad for his mental health.

The Iranian man, named only as “D8” in court documents, entered Britain illegally on a small boat in March 2021 and claimed asylum.

A 32-year-old Sunni Muslim, he had previously been granted five years’ leave to remain as a refugee in March 2017 after crossing the English Channel in the back of a lorry.

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish has come under fire for posing for a photograph with a controversial local anti-Israel activist who attempted to organize a vigil for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar last year.

Parrish attended a “multi-religious Iftar celebration” at Anatolia Islamic Centre in Mississauga on Wednesday evening, according to a statement on her X account. Iftar is the meal Muslims eat after fasting during Ramadan.

Two Edmonton Muslim women who joined ISIS ordered to attend deradicalization program

An Alberta judge has ordered two Edmonton women captured in Syria during the defeat of the Islamic State to take part in a deradicalization program.

At a court appearance on Friday, Helena Carson and Dina Kalouti were told they must undergo counselling with the Organization for the Prevention of Violence.

Justice Suzanne Polkosnik approved an RCMP request to impose a terrorism peace bond on the sisters-in-law, who acknowledged living in ISIS territory for four years.
