Nova Scotia is the province with the most shoplifting, Quebec has the least

Nova Scotia has the highest rate of shoplifting in Canada, according to a National Post analysis of Statistics Canada crime data. British Columbia has the second-highest rate.

In late July, StatCan released its Canadian crime data for 2023. In recent years, as the cost of living has soared, retailers and business organizations have complained about increasingly brazen and damaging bouts of shoplifting.

Pranjal Singh was looking forward to a summer in Canada to hang out with his older sister, whom he had not seen since she left India to study in Toronto in April 2021.

The last thing the 18-year-old from Delhi had anticipated was being made to file a refugee claim in Canada when he landed in Montreal en route to Toronto on June 23.

“My brother comes from a wealthy family in India. He faces no danger in India,” said his sister Priyanshu Singh, 22, adding that their father owns several shoe factories and multiple properties in India.

Sniper shot Trump gunman’s weapon and delayed him – report

A police sniper potentially saved lives by shooting the rifle of Donald Trump’s would-be assassin and knocking him down, an investigation says.

According to a report by Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins, the sniper’s bullet damaged Thomas Matthew Crooks’s gun and disrupted his aim after he took his first shots in Butler, Pennsylvania. Moments later, a Secret Service sniper killed him.

The report comes as the Secret Service temporarily reassigns some bodyguards from President Joe Biden to Trump, according to US media.

Terrorist motivation being investigated in Waterford chaplain stabbing

An Garda Síochána continue to investigate all the circumstances into the stabbing of well-known Waterford army chaplain, Fr Paul Murphy at Renmore Army Barracks, Galway last evening.

The Special Detective Unit of An Garda Síochána are heading the investigation with one line of enquiry to establish if this attack had a terrorism motivation.

The suspect, believed to be in his late teens/early twenties, remains in detention and is being questioned in a Garda station in the North Western region. Their period of detection has recently been extended.

Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins has blasted the FBI for releasing attempted Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks’ body to his family for cremation days after the shooting — calling it “disturbing” that the agency would impede further investigation.

The Republican congressman said he discovered that Crooks’ body was handed over to his family when he requested to examine it during his visit to the Butler, Pennsylvania rally site to investigate the shooting.
