Anti-authority narratives could tear ‘fabric of society,’ intelligence report warns

OTTAWA — Threats against politicians have become “increasingly normalized” due to extremist narratives prompted by personal grievances and fuelled by misinformation or deliberate lies, warns a newly released intelligence report.

The report, prepared by a federal task force that aims to safeguard elections, says the Canadian violent extremist landscape has seen the proliferation of conspiracy theories, a growing lack of trust in the integrity of the state and more political polarization.

Baseless theories, disinformation and misinformation have spread to larger audiences, exposing online users to a vast network of narratives that undermine science, systems of government and traditional figures of authority, the report says.

Two Canadian men switched at birth nearly 70 years ago finally get apology for life-changing mistake

Two Canadian men who discovered they were switched at birth from a DNA test finally received a formal apology from the government nearly 70 years after the life-changing mistake.

Richard Beauvais and Eddy Ambrose, 68, were born on the same day in the same hospital in Arborg, Manitoba, in 1955, according to the BBC.

However, a major error in the hospital led to Beauvais and Ambrose being taken home by each other’s biological parents.

Female migrant is intercepted at southern border while wearing ultra-expensive Canada Goose jacket and toting iPhone

A migrant was spotted crossing the border wearing a Canada Goose jacket and carrying a recent model phone.

The woman, who appeared to have arrived from East Asia, crossed into the US at Jacumba, California, on Wednesday and was seen on news footage.

She was seen lining up alongside dozens of other migrants surrendering to border patrol agents to claim asylum in the US.

George Galloway has been condemned by MPs as a “stain on British democracy” for spreading conspiracy theories about the Princess of Wales, including speculating that she was “dead”.

The recently re-elected MP was branded “the lowest of the low” for “platforming untruths” about the Princess.

Mr Galloway made a return to Parliament at the beginning of this month after winning the Rochdale by-election as a candidate for his Workers Party of Britain.

Still Not Dead: Canadian students hunger-strike for college to divest from Israel-linked firms

A group of students at McGill University have spent more than three weeks on hunger strike in an effort to force the Canadian college to divest from “companies supporting the Israeli military”.

The move follows months of protests and sit-ins at McGill and at universities around the world, as students and faculty members have protested against Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

Documents on McGill’s website show that it held investments in companies including Lockheed Martin, a defense contractor which has sold fighter jets to Israel, and Safran, a French air and defense company.

An upcoming BBC documentary follows the story of Zwy Aldouby.

Right at the bloodiest point of the Northern Ireland Troubles, he filmed bombers unmasked and met most of the IRA’s underground leadership.

The film disappeared for almost 50 years and former IRA members have now told the BBC it was a huge mistake to allow Aldouby such unprecedented access.

MPs are looking to bring an ArriveCan contractor before the House of Commons to be formally rebuked by Speaker Greg Fergus.

On Friday, Fergus found there was a prima facie breach of MPs’ privilege when GC Strategies’ Kristian Firth declined to answer certain questions during a committee appearance earlier this month.

Following Fergus’ ruling, Conservative MP Michael Barrett moved a motion calling on MPs to order that Firth appear before the bar of the House to be publicly admonished.
