OTTAWA – For the first time, Canada will set targets for the number of new temporary resident arrivals to the country, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced Thursday.
The federal government plans to decrease the number of temporary residents to five per cent of the population over the next three years, down from the current 6.2 per cent.
The first targets will be set in September.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s controversial vacation to Jamaica last Christmas cost Canadian taxpayers far more than his trip to the same destination a year earlier, CBC News has learned.
According to the government’s answer to questions posed by Conservative House Leader Andrew Scheer, tabled this week, Trudeau’s 10-day vacation with his family to Prospect Estate near Ocho Rios cost taxpayers $230,442, a 42 per cent increase over the $162,000 cost of a similar trip over the Christmas holidays in 2022-23.
Now he’ll have to raise the carbon tax!
Police are calling on the federal government to create a “national action plan” to combat auto theft as it becomes increasingly violent, raising concerns at the Annual Auto Theft Summit in Peel Region.
“The nature of these auto thefts is, as we have seen now, shifting to things like home invasions, carjackings and the use of illegal firearms,” said Nishan Duraiappah, Chief of Police of Peel Regional Police.

OTTAWA—The federal government has referred three cases of suspected subcontractor fraud to the RCMP following an internal review that found nearly $5 million in illegitimate payments on federal contracts from 2018 to 2022.

Two appointees to a new state committee considering paying reparations should resign for making “disturbing” antisemitic and anti-police remarks, New York Republicans said Wednesday.
