Zohran Mamdani’s selective scrutiny

He doesn’t treat his religion or community with the scrutiny he reserves for others

Within weeks of launching his campaign to be mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani declared that he was also running to be the first South Asian mayor. He began aggressively courting this demographic, which accounts for around five percent of the city’s population, as well as the seizable total Asian population of almost 15 percent.

Mamdani reached out to the desi community with the help of the Indian subcontinent’s great unifier, Bollywood. The Hindi film industry that even those who don’t speak the language in South Asia can relate to. He used a 1980 Bollywood song “Meri Umar Ke Naujawano”, roughly translating to “my fellow youngsters”, to explain the NYC’s ranked choice voting system using popular desi drink, the lassi, as prop.

‘Obliterating’ Iran’s Nuclear Sites Is Not Enough

The United States and Israel have, according to reliable sources, “obliterated” or “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear installations, but so long as the regime and its terror proxies continue to exist, the mission remains unaccomplished.

“The conventional army loses if it does not win. The guerrilla wins if he does not lose,” Henry Kissinger observed in 1969.

The continuing rule of Iran and its terror proxies remains a major threat to security and stability in the Middle East. Let us not forget that their main goal is to destroy not only Israel (the “Little Satan”), but also the US (the “Great Satan”).

Carney calls mid-August Alberta byelection, clearing Poilievre’s path to a new seat

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney has scheduled a byelection for Aug. 18 in the Alberta riding of Battle River—Crowfoot where Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will be looking to regain a seat.

“The prime minister will be honouring his commitment of calling it quickly with ‘no games’ so that the byelection is complete well ahead of the House of Commons coming back in mid-September, rather than drawing it out in any way until December or January,” said a source familiar with the prime minster’s thinking, speaking on background because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Entry-level jobs in free-fall after launch of ChatGPT

Entry-level jobs are in free-fall as the rise of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT causes low-paying and graduate roles to disappear.

Recently-released data shows that the number of entry-level roles being advertised has fallen by a third since the launch of OpenAI’s chatbot in November 2022.

According to figures from online jobs board Adzuna, there were 214,934 entry-level jobs on offer in May this year, down by 32pc from just three years ago.

Russia pays young Ukrainians to be unwitting suicide bombers in shadow war

Oleh found the job via a Telegram channel offering day work and side gigs. It sounded easy enough: he was to travel from his home in eastern Ukraine to the western city of Rivne, pick up a rucksack containing a paint canister and spray it outside the local police station.

It would require nimble feet to flee the scene without being caught, but the money on offer – $1,000 – was good, fantastic even, for what amounted to a morning’s work for the 19-year-old.

But when, on a snowy morning in early February, he opened the bag outside Rivne’s police station, he recoiled in horror. Instead of a paint canister, he saw something that looked like a homemade bomb, with protruding wires and a mobile phone attached to it, apparently a crude remote detonation mechanism.

Mexico police discover 381 bodies ‘thrown indiscriminately’ on crematorium floor

Police have found 381 corpses piled up in a private crematorium in northern Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez, the local prosecutor’s office has said , attributing the grisly find to negligence.

“Preliminarily, we have 381 bodies that were deposited irregularly in the crematorium, which were not cremated,” Eloy Garcia, spokesperson for the Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office, told AFP.

Garcia said the corpses were “stacked” in no apparent order in various rooms of the building where the crematorium operates.

They were “just thrown like that, indiscriminately, one on top of the other, on the floor,” he said.

Terror propagandist ‘Dark Foreigner’ should get 14 years for ‘vile’ crimes, Crown argues

Everyone agrees, even the defence. For inciting hate, fear and division by calling for violence against Jews with his terrorist propaganda videos and images, Patrick Gordon MacDonald is going to prison for a substantial period of time.

At a sentencing hearing in Ottawa’s Superior Court last week, federal Crown prosecutors based out of Montreal implored the judge to hand down 14 years for MacDonald’s “vile” crimes under the alias Dark Foreigner, while his defence argued for six to eight years and about 10 months of credit for time already served in custody and on bail under strict conditions.

This one loser will get more press coverage than a year of Hamas rallies.

Bell: ‘It’s lunacy’ — Alberta pushes Carney to drop Liberal electric vehicle fantasy

“It’s lunacy. Straight-up lunacy.”

The words come from Devin Dreeshen, the Alberta government’s point man on transportation.

He has nothing against electric vehicles, EVs for short. You want one, buy one.

He just doesn’t think the government in Ottawa should be ramming the purchase of them down people’s throats.

Glastonbury stars Bob Vylan have US visas REVOKED after ‘death to IDF’ chants

A British rock band have had their American visas revoked, meaning they can no longer tour in the US, after they shouted ‘death to the IDF’ at a festival on Saturday.

Bob Vylan led the sick chant at Glastonbury, the UK’s biggest music festival, as crowds waved Palestine flags and joined the call for the deaths of Israeli soldiers.

There is or was a Canadian leg to this tour I wonder if they’ll bother.
