WALLACE & NEMETH: Carney’s carbon tariff dream will just be more inflation

Mark Carney has made it clear that as part of continued net zero policies, his government will consider imposing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM.) That would be a carbon tariff applied to imports, to support Canadian products burdened by domestic carbon pricing.

Proposed in 2021 and included in the 2024 Fall Economic Statement, the Canadian CBAM is a misguided attempt to shield domestic industries. In response to America’s new tariffs, a CBAM has been proposed to pivot trade to the EU and adopt a European-style CBAM.

Record number of Americans are seeking residency in UK, according to Home Office

During the 12 months leading up to March, more than 6,000 US citizens have applied to either become British subjects or to live and work in the country indefinitely – the highest number since comparable records began in 2004, according to data released on Thursday by the UK’s Home Office.

Over the period, 6,618 Americans applied for British citizenship – with more than 1,900 of the applications received between January and March, most of which has been during the beginning of Donald Trump’s second US presidency.

The surge in applications at the start of 2025 made that the highest number for any quarter on record.

The Prince, His Money Manager and the Corruption Scandal Rocking Monaco

He safeguarded the family’s fortune—and their secrets. Now, it’s all unraveling.

TUCKED ONE STREET behind Monte Carlo’s historic harbor, which is famously dotted with champagne bars and anchored by the storied casino that was the backdrop to multiple James Bond films, the

Monaco police station may be the most unglamorous building in one of the world’s most glamorous settings.
Gray and boxy, it looks more like student housing on a university campus than a bulwark of security for the global elite who flock here as much for its aura of protective secrecy as its shimmering scenery.

But over two days this February, in the police captain’s office with a window facing up the rocky slope toward the palace, a dapper 68-year-old suspect in a corruption scandal rattled one of Europe’s most storied royal families and shook the foundations of a tiny country built on polished appearances, ironclad confidentiality and tightly choreographed power.

Conrad Black: Canada covers itself in shame over Israel

On May 19, a joint statement was issued by the governments of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada whose principal points were: ”We call on the Israeli government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. This must include engaging with the UN to ensure a return to delivery of aid in line with humanitarian principles.” “Israel suffered a heinous attack on October 7. We have always supported Israel’s right to defend Israelis against terrorism. But this escalation is wholly disproportionate.” “If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response.” “It is a ceasefire, the release of all remaining hostages and a long-term political solution that offer the best hope of ending the agony of the hostages and their families, alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza, ending Hamas’s control of Gaza and achieving a pathway to a two-state solution.”

The Bizarre Phenomenon of Celebrity Transgender Children Confronts Changing Attitudes

Jamie Lee Curtis and weirdo son

For a several-year span, when a celebrity announced that her child had transitioned to the opposite sex, she was showered with praise and attention. In fact, nothing compared to a transgender child in demonstrating how progressive, open-minded, and compassionate an actress was. She was oh-so-supportive and affirming when her son, at three, announced that he was really a girl. Divorce or a rotating cast of long-term “partners” would be old news in Hollywood. But a transgender child, now that was interesting. A transgender child was the hottest accessory one could have.

I will not have what they’re having. Thank you.

How Soros Bought the ‘Voice’ of the Jewish Community

And turned it into an advocacy group for Hamas supporters.

After a belated crackdown on campus antisemitism, some were surprised to see the Jewish Council for Public Affairs leading a campaign in support of college Hamas enthusiasts.

Observers of Jewish organizational life remembered the JCPA as a representative of local Jewish ‘federations’, the organization had always been liberal, but it had never taken so blatant a stance in defense of antisemites or so overt a stance.against the American Jewish community.

How fentanyl transformed Victoria’s Pandora Avenue from downtown hub to open-air drug market

The sidewalk outside Victoria’s Central Baptist Church was littered with trash on a recent visit. A woman was slumped like a resting marionette, her arms hanging from her waist. The smell of urine rose from the concrete. It was mid-week in the heart of the city’s central business district but Pandora Avenue was strangely quiet. Nobody was talking. No one was asking for change.

Central Baptist Church stretches almost an entire block along Pandora’s south side. Judged from the nave, it looks in good shape, with a new pastor, a banging house band, a popular youth ministry. On Sundays, 700 people pack the pews to hear Shawn Barden preach.

Hush over Hollywood: why has it become so hard to make films in Los Angeles?

When Adam Scott was working on the hit TV show Parks and Recreation in the early 2010s, the Los Angeles studio where the show was filmed was packed – “every stage was filled and working”.

These days, he told his former co-star Rob Lowe in a much-discussed recent podcast conversation, “it’s quiet over there” – in part because “it’s just too expensive to shoot here”.

“Nothing shoots in Los Angeles,” Scott said.

“Nothing!” Lowe replied.

HANNAFORD: They should have been met at the gate, and sent back to Holland

As I write, a 2,500-strong group of anti-Israel protesters is arriving from Amsterdam, apparently intending to join the planned disruption of a pro-Israel march in Toronto. Sadly, the pre-event advertising for this counter-march can only be interpreted as an invitation to violence. (See the story from Western Standard reporter, Jen Hodgson.)

Local anti-Israel organizers post on social media, ‘Our friends from Amsterdam are coming to the Walk Against Israel and looking for anyone who celebrates the intentional murder of babies.’

“Looking for?”

Angel Reese, Jasmine Crockett and the privilege of anti-white bigotry

Now showing more anti white bullshit

One reason why the public turned on diversity, equity and inclusion was its insistence that roughly 70% of the country was stereotyped as victimizers by virtue of their skin color.

In contrast, the other “diverse” 30% were de facto considered the victimized.

In such absurd binaries, the left returned to the old “one-drop” rule of the antebellum South, suggesting that anyone with any non-white ancestry was a minority victim.

What the data show about the state of immigration in Canada since cuts were announced … The Liberal Government Is Not Serious About Reducing Mass Immigration

A new analysis of immigration data released by the federal government reveals that while the number of new permanent residents dropped after the federal government announced that it would cut immigration levels, the number of temporary foreign workers actually increased, while other temporary permits declined.

Last October, the federal government under then prime minister Justin Trudeau announced it would reduce its permanent immigration targets from 500,000 down to 395,000 in 2025. The government also set a cap for the first time on the intake of temporary residents in both student and worker streams, at 673,650 temporary resident visas for 2025.

It’s all bullshit. You’re children will never own a home and your city will be a 3rd World dumpster like the GTA.

Inside the NDP’s last-ditch efforts to save Jagmeet Singh and his riding

In the dying days of the federal election campaign, senior New Democrats made a desperate, last-ditch attempt to save Jagmeet Singh’s Burnaby, B.C., seat. Some say it was unwinnable.

At least 20 staff from the party’s Ottawa headquarters packed the leader’s campaign plane just days before the April 28 election, hitching a ride to the West Coast with a mission to door-knock on his behalf. This was after a small team were sent to Burnaby Central earlier in that month.

The cross-country venture was a waste of resources when the party was fighting for its life in other, closer races, according to three, frustrated sources within the party, who spoke to CBC News on condition they not be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Scummy to the very end.
