Think tank warns federal subsidies turning MSM into government arm

Expanding subsidies risk transforming Canada’s mainstream media into a government-controlled entity, an Ottawa think tank warned Thursday.

Blacklock’s Reporter says the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, in a report by former Calgary Herald publisher Peter Menzies, argued that growing reliance on federal funding is damaging journalism’s credibility and independence.

The Warship That Shows Why the U.S. Navy Is Falling Behind China

When a Wisconsin shipyard won the contract to build a new class of Navy frigate in 2020, the project was meant to address an embarrassing reality: The U.S. is now the global laggard in building warships.

Stocked with high-tech weaponry to protect against enemy submarines, missiles and drones, the USS Constellation was expected to be ready for the open water in 2026. That was because the U.S. chose a proven design from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri in an effort to speed the process.

Then the Navy started tinkering.

The Lessons of the 1930s: Have We Truly Learned Anything?

It is time to see through the lies and resist an elite that, under the guise of ‘liberal values,’ is steadily consolidating authoritarian power.

History does not repeat itself exactly, but those who pay close attention recognize recurring patterns. The Great Depression of the 1930s—preceded by excessive debt and culminating in a stock market crash—not only led to economic collapse but also triggered political instability, radicalization, and the rise of totalitarian ideologies. Chaos and uncertainty made citizens susceptible to simplistic solutions offered by both fascists and communists. As we know, this ultimately resulted in an unprecedented global catastrophe. Now, nearly a century later, we find ourselves in another crisis—not due to excessive private debt, but due to unprecedented national debts, the threat of war, and a political elite trading freedom for control.

Trump’s Tariffs: A Good Idea?

Most of us have heard about the high tariffs that U.S. businesses pay to Canada for the export of dairy and (some) meat products to that country. It is absolutely true that Canada can impose astronomically high tariffs, such as these: milk 250%, butter 290%, whey 208%, cheese 240%, poultry 238%, and some animal meat 265%. However, effective rates can be higher or much lower.

Were the Kennedy Files a Bust? Not So Fast, Historians Say.

In June 1973, a C.I.A. employee wrote a memo at the request of William E. Colby, the agency’s director, listing various ways the C.I.A. had, to put it delicately, “exceeded” its charter over the years.

The seven pages matter-of-factly described break-ins at the French Consulate in Washington, planned paramilitary attacks on Chinese nuclear facilities and injections of a “contaminating agent” in Cuban sugar bound for the Soviet Union. The memo ended with an offhand aside about John A. McCone, the agency’s former director.

“Finally, and this will reflect my Middle Western Protestant upbringing, McCone’s dealings with the Vatican, including Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI, would and could raise eyebrows in certain quarters,” the author wrote.

White Boys Blamed Again

It seems as though everyone is watching Adolescence this week. The four-part Netflix series tells the story of a 13 year-old white boy who murders a female classmate after having been radicalised by the ‘manosphere’. It’s beautifully shot and wonderfully acted. My mother has been texting me excitedly as she watches each episode. The star, Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne toured TV studios, calling for the show to be aired in schools and parliament, making it clear that they hope it “causes discussion and makes change“. Even the Prime Minister has got in on the act, saying that his family have been watching and that “the violence carried out by young men, influenced by what they see online, is a real problem”. Meanwhile the Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy made it clear that the Government is “pressing ahead with the Online Harms Act to make sure that we keep people safe online”.

Michael Taube: Heed Britain’s stern warnings about Mark Carney

Before Mark Carney became Liberal leader and Canada’s 24th prime minister, he served as governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. It’s fair to say these two countries would’ve had the most intimate knowledge of his personality, views and ideas.

Britain, unlike Canada, has always been more brutally honest about what they like about Carney — but mostly what they don’t like. The wide range of criticism included Carney’s left-wing politics, such as his championing of radical environmentalist policies like net-zero emissions, along with his opposition to Brexit, his political inexperience, dull personality, volatile temper, lousy track record at the Bank of England and more.

Joy Reid garbles American history and claims Canada would beat US in war

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid has resurfaced for the first time since being fired by the liberal network just to wildly claim Canada would most definitely beat the US in a war.

Reid, 56, joined ex-CNN host Don Lemon on his show to discuss Trump’s ‘absurd’ plan to take over Canada and make it the 51st State.

‘First of all, you can’t make Canada the 51st State without going to war with them,’ she told Lemon on Thursday. ‘And let me explain how that happened, how that worked out the last time we tried to go to war with Canada.

French Mayor Blasts Book for Downplaying Fatal Anti-White Attack

On the night of November 18th, 2023, 300 to 400 young people gathered in the village hall of Crépol, a small settlement in the department of Drôme, France for a dance party.

But what began like an evening of carefree fun soon turned into a nightmare. As we reported at the time, a gang of individuals broke into the party and spread terror by attacking the participants with knives. A youngster of 16, Thomas, a member of the local rugby club, died of a stab wound during his transfer to a hospital in Lyon. Two others were severely wounded, and more than a dozen other people suffered various degrees of injuries during the rampage, including the bouncer who had his fingers cut off.

Poilievre rejects plan by Carney-endorsed Mark Wiseman to reach population of 100M by 2100

Tory leader Pierre Poilievre on Friday said he categorically rejects Prime Minister Mark Carney’s appointee Mark Wiseman’s Century Initiative that would open the floodgates of immigration.

Carney this week added the World Economic Forum’s Wiseman to his council of advisers on Canada-US relations.

Carney’s choice of Wiseman tells me both are evil swine.

Blame Canada – South Park is the most politically astute show on TV

On CNN recently, the hosts of Saturday morning show Table For Five searched for the words to describe Donald Trump’s recent suggestion that Canada should become America’s 51st state. “It boggles the mind,” co-host Abby Phillip exclaimed. “They’re one of our greatest allies!” agreed pundit John Avalon. It was journalist and YouTube host Touré, though, whose comments cut through. “It’s not a serious concept,” the writer groaned, at the idea of America annexing their neighbours to the north. “It’s a South Park idea!”
