Riot Fatigue

After enduring another looting frenzy, Philadelphia residents wonder whether mass thuggery is just a fact of life in the city.

“Here we go again—it’s a Philly Thing” was the message on Philadelphia social media, especially Facebook, where posters reported that the city was once again under siege.
Scattered first reports mentioned a caravan of looters moving from one neighborhood to another: Center City, West Philadelphia, Port Richmond, and then on to the Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philadelphia. The marauders managed to pillage 18 state-run liquor stores, causing the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to close all 48 of its Philadelphia retail outlets. In Center City, plunderers ransacked the Apple store, Footlocker, and Lululemon. Some wore Halloween masks as they grabbed merchandise and were cheered on by Philadelphia Instagram celebrity Dayjia Blackwell, 21, known as “Meatball,” who told her 200,000 followers: “We outside. This is what happens when we get no justice in our city. We terrorize this city!”

Lawsuit Seeks To Untangle Links Between Biden Administration and Southern Poverty Law Center’s Listing on Moms for Liberty

Did the Biden administration coordinate with the Southern Poverty Law Center to designate Moms for Liberty an “extremist” group, and what kinds of communications have the FBI, the Department of Justice, and other federal agencies had about the parental rights group?

Those questions are central to a lawsuit filed last week by the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project against a host of agencies in the Biden administration for their failure to comply with Freedom of Information Act requests regarding Moms for Liberty, its co-founders, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Wyoming Ranchers Accused Of Bleaching Penis Shapes Onto Neighbor’s Cows

Accused of bleaching images of male genitalia and other markings onto their neighbor’s cows, a Crook County father and son are now facing felony-level property destruction charges.

Two criminal complaints filed last month in the Sundance Circuit Court allege that Patrick Sean Carroll, who is 66 this year, and his son Tucker Kye Carroll, who is 34 this year, funneled 189 heifers and six bulls into a chute and bleach-dyed them to get a neighbor’s attention after three years of having the cattle cross onto their land.

Defence cost-cutting jeopardizing Canada’s armed forces

In last year’s budget, the federal Liberals promised to “carry out a swift defence policy review to equip Canada for a world that has become more dangerous.”

Apparently, in its “swift” review, the Trudeau government discovered the world was less dangerous, not more. How else to explain this week’s news the Liberals have ordered our armed forces to cut nearly $1 billion from its overall budget?

CSIS Warned PM’s Adviser of Beijing’s Targeting of MPs, Contradicting Adviser’s, Special Rapporteur’s Accounts

A second national security adviser to the prime minister got a warning in 2021 from the nation’s spy agency that Beijing was targeting MPs, a classified document obtained by The Epoch Times shows, but he didn’t brief it up. Additionally, this detail was not included in the special rapporteur’s report on foreign interference.

The Epoch Times has obtained, through the access to information regime, a partly redacted Top Secret limited distribution briefing note the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) sent to a handful of government officials in May 2021, advising them it would conduct defensive briefings with the targeted MPs.

Pope Francis scolds U.S., ‘irresponsible’ Western lifestyle in climate plea

VATICAN CITY — Warning that “the world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point,” Pope Francis issued a renewed call for climate action Wednesday, singling out the United States for “irresponsible” Western excess and decrying the “weakness” of world leaders for failing to take bold steps.

Eight years after his landmark environmental encyclical, Laudato Si’, in which he scolded climate change deniers and called for an “ecological conversion” among the faithful, Francis released a follow-up, known as an apostolic exhortation. Considered a lower-level document, it was far more concise — 12 pages, compared with his 180-page encyclical. Its impact, too, may be more limited.

Canada is building fewer homes today than during the 2020 lockdowns — and ‘the worst is yet to come’

Luxury accommodation

As the fallout from the Bank of Canada’s interest rate hikes continues, fewer homes are being built today compared to the lowest point in the pandemic — the 2020 lockdowns — and it’s going to get worse, an economist says.

The provincial government has repeatedly claimed that Ontario needs to free up more land to build houses, but according to the report, lack of land is not the issue. Instead, the report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives finds that building has slowed because inflation and the high cost of materials has made home building less profitable for developers, and there are fears the market will slow due to higher mortgage rates.

John Ivison: The uncontrolled military program plundering the public purse, desperate for adult attention

Canada’s Brokeback Navy

Theseus, the mythical Greek founder of Athens, is said to have rescued the children of Athens from King Minos after slaying the minotaur, and then escaped on a ship that was revered by the Greeks over many centuries.

As part of its regular maintenance, the ship was rebuilt plank by plank, resulting in the “ship of Theseus” paradox about identity over time: Is it the same vessel that existed before the replacements?
