We are in the space between the emergence of this technological practice and courts having ruled on its constitutionality,” said Alex Marthews, national chair for Restore the 4th, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of the Fourth Amendment, which protects Americans’ rights against “unreasonable search and seizure.”
“Geofencing” often begins with an innocent click. Smartphone apps ask if they can access location to improve service. When users say they yes, they often don’t realize that the apps that help them drive, cook, or pray are likely reselling their information to far-flung for-profit entities. This and other information detailing people’s behaviors and preferences is valuable for businesses trying to target customers. The global location intelligence market was estimated at $16 billion last year, according to Grand View Research, which predicts that figure will grow to $51 billion by 2030.

For several years, Sam Bankman-Fried was crypto’s rising star, a seemingly razor-sharp and legitimate figure in the largely opaque world.
As founder of the crypto exchange FTX and its associated hedge fund, Alameda Research, Bankman-Fried wooed private investors and lawmakers alike with his pitch of a crypto trading platform that was safer and more risk-averse than those that had preceded it.
As FTX boomed, Bankman-Fried’s profile rose. FTX and its leading competitor, Binance, would come to process most crypto trades around the world. By the age of 30, Bankman-Fried had amassed billions.
I see a pardon in his future regardless of sentence length.

Nothing kills a police department faster than destruction of officer morale—and in the BPD, morale is dead.
The “thin blue line” symbolizes the police’s role in maintaining civilized society. The police are the barrier between the law-abiding and the criminal, the vulnerable and the predatory, order and chaos. Across the United States, police are under attack and the blue line is wavering. In Baltimore, it has broken.

… People aligned with the Old Right were still concerned with traditional Republican priorities such as lower taxes, spending, and debt. But among the rapidly growing New Right, the category of “cultural challenges” was the highest priority by a significant margin. Those issues included woke corporate policies and the left’s obsession with race. But the largest segment of respondents identified “transgender activists trying to erase the difference between boys and girls” as the greatest cultural challenge facing the country.

Last week, realizing that Belgium was once again being laughed at by its NATO partners, Belgian federal government ministers David Clarinval and Hadja Lahbib put the idea of delivering Belgian F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine back on the table.
Their recommendation is immensely important for the US and the West. If the overall Western policy is just “not to let Ukraine lose” rather than to defeat an unprovoked attack against a democracy, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be emboldened to continue his aggression, and China will read the weakness as a green light to invade Taiwan. The US is already seen as having abandoned Afghanistan, during a conflict former President Barack Obama had called “the good war.” The US cannot afford another display of weakness or surrender. Putin sent his troops to the Ukraine in September of 2021, just a few weeks after the US abandoned Afghanistan. He got the message that “the coast was clear.” Unless there is a clear strategy to defeat Russia, anything short of that will look globally like Afghanistan, the sequel; another example of US fecklessness, and a good reason not to be an ally.

Private jet service for rich dog owners condemned by climate campaigners
Environmentalists have condemned a “ludicrous” private jet service that transports wealthy people’s dogs, which this week ran its first flight from Dubai to London.
For £8,166, one way, customers were able to sit with their dogs on their laps and sip champagne as they travelled from Al Maktoum international airport to Farnborough in a Gulfstream IV-SP jet.
The company, K9 Jets, which is run by a husband-and-wife couple from Birmingham, already operates services to New Jersey, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Paris and Lisbon.
I’m not calling for the business to be shut down, I’m fine with it. I wish to know the eco-hypocrites who use it.

Google’s search engine is covered by federal privacy law, a court has ruled, opening the door for people to demand to have their names made unsearchable – commonly known as a “right to be forgotten.”
In a 2-1 ruling, the Federal Court of Appeal said Google, which is responsible for as much as 75 per cent of internet searches in Canada, is not covered by an exemption in the federal law for journalistic or artistic work.

U2’s Bono has declared that America is now at a “low ebb” — a possible insult to President Joe Biden, who is facing record-low popularity among voters in the face of runaway inflation, a tsunami of illegal aliens, and endless taxpayer funding for the endless war in Ukraine.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) allegedly pulled a fire alarm in the United States Capitol complex moments before the House was scheduled to vote on a bill preventing a government shutdown, according to the House Administration Committee.

A prosecutor working to investigate Hunter Biden’s tax affairs flagged multiple potential violations of the Mann Act – which forbids trafficking of people across state lines for sex.
Jack Morgan, a prosecutor with the tax division of the Justice Department, emailed the Assistant US Attorney for Delaware, Lesley Wolf, to raise his concerns. Wolf spent five years investigating Hunter Biden’s tax affairs.
Morgan’s email was obtained by a whistleblower within the IRS, Joseph Ziegler, who has testified in Congress that the government worked to slow down the investigation into Joe Biden’s 52-year-old son.

Nearly half of Canadians have no plans to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
A new survey found that 48 per cent of Canadians say they won’t be taking any specific action to recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This is according to Leger, a data analytics company that surveyed more than 1,600 Canadians to better understand their awareness of Indigenous communities.
The data found that 24 per cent of Canadians think they are much more aware of Indigenous history in Canada than they were four to five years ago.

Drug users are upset with the San Francisco city government after the mayor proposed drug tests be required for recipients of welfare.
“It’s our choice to use if we want to use,” resident Amy Brown said of the policy, which Democratic mayor London Breed proposed this week as a measure to fight the city’s homelessness and crime epidemic that’s causing businesses to flee.

Before trying to set a Guinness World Record by eating 50 of the hottest chile peppers on the planet, Mike Jack set up a picture frame featuring two photos atop a table at a brewery in London, Ontario. One was of Terry Fox, the Canadian activist who in 1980 ran more than 3,300 miles on an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. The other was of Thich Quang Duc, the Buddhist monk who doused himself in gasoline and set himself ablaze to protest the Vietnamese government’s alleged persecution of Buddhists.
That is amazing.

The same American left that reacted to the death of conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh by making “Rest in P***” trend on Twitter is irate that an ammo company is having a promotion to mark the death of California Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
Feinstein died Thursday at the age of 90 after a career opposing gun rights while simultaneously supporting abortion. News of her death followed months of calls for her to resign amid health concerns.
