Fearing a mass exodus, some Biden officials are pressing for a multinational force, but they don’t want to send U.S. troops and haven’t been able to persuade other countries to take the lead.

After days of gunfights in early November, Haitian police officers emerged triumphant: They had finally liberated the nation’s biggest port from the gangs that had taken it over for two months.

But when members of Haiti’s SWAT team returned to the shantytown that surrounds the port just days later, they still did not feel safe enough to even leave their armored truck.

The officers anxiously scanned rows of rusty shacks for hidden gunmen, too wary of the danger outside to open the doors.

The upshot was clear: The police keep trying to fight back, but gangs still run much of Haiti.

China Protestors Call for End to CCP Rule

Extraordinary protests quickly spread across China over the weekend, including major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, since a fire Thursday claimed a reported 10 lives in an apartment block in Urumqi, in the northwestern part of the country.

China’s people were enraged by the regime’s COVID controls, which had prevented firefighters from reaching the scene of the tragedy in time. “This is people past their breaking point,” tweeted CNN’s Selina Wang on Sunday.

In late 2016, Abdullah el-Faisal, a Jamaican preacher who was an outspoken supporter of the Islamic State, began communicating on WhatsApp with a woman in New York who claimed to be an aspiring jihadist with medical training.

He offered to help her join the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, prosecutors in Manhattan said, and made an introduction to a member of the group, which is known for carrying out brutal executions, including drownings and beheadings in the Middle East. Mr. Faisal described the man as someone who not only would help her travel to join extremist fighters — but who would be a suitable husband.

In the build-up to this one the Americans had to put up the barricades in the press conference. Player and coach were asked all sorts of confrontational questions, from school shootings and the US fleet in the Persian Gulf to their country’s issues with racism and women’s rights. Indeed Gregg Berhalter was told, at one point, that his country cared more about inflation rises than his team.

Now, I’m an adult who understands and appreciates nuance and the complications of the human condition. I also appreciate how dramatizing complicated, and even painful, subjects can teach us something about our fellow man.

As part of that, she had a piece out titled “Republicans don’t care that Trump’s a white supremacist — just that he’s indiscreet about it.”

In it, Marcotte not only condemned right-wing politicians as racist bigots but also contemptibly categorized their voters similarly. She wrote, “GOP base voters, who either fully agree with Trump’s racist views or don’t care enough to hold it against him, dig in their heels and refuse to reconsider their cult-like worship of the former president.”

Russia firing unarmed missiles to deplete Ukraine air defense, says U.S. military official

WASHINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) – Russia is firing unarmed cruise missiles that were designed to carry nuclear warheads at targets in Ukraine to try to deplete Kyiv’s stocks of air defenses, a senior U.S. military official said on Tuesday.

The official, who declined to be named, was asked about a Nov. 26 assessment by Britain’s military intelligence which said that Russia was “likely” removing nuclear warheads from cruise missiles and firing the unarmed munitions into Ukraine.

‘Racist’ interview with Pope Francis causes fury in Russia

Pope Francis has sparked fury in Russia over an interview in which he suggested that Chechen and Buryat members of its armed forces showed more cruelty in Ukraine than ethnic Russian soldiers.

In an interview with the Catholic magazine America published Monday, the pope said that soldiers from Buryatia, where Buddhism is a major religion, and the Muslim-majority Chechnya republic, were “the cruellest” while fighting in Ukraine.

“Generally, the cruellest are perhaps those who are of Russia but are not of the Russian tradition, such as the Chechens, the Buryats and so on,” he said.

Less than half of England and Wales population Christian, Census 2021 shows

For the first time fewer than half of people in England and Wales describe themselves as Christian, the Census 2021 has revealed.

The proportion of people who said they were Christian was 46.2%, down from 59.3% in the last census in 2011.

In contrast the number who said they had no religion increased to 37.2% of the population, up from a quarter.

Those identifying as Muslim rose from 4.9% in 2011 to 6.5% last year.

Large Credit Union Allegedly Reported Convoy-Supporting Depositors to RCMP

One of Canada’s largest credit unions allegedly reported depositors to the RCMP whom it suspected of supporting the Freedom Convoy protests last winter.

Desjardins Group managers sent an email to the RCMP on Feb. 19 disclosing deposit amounts used to pay credit card bills of several of its customers that it believed were spending to support the convoy protesters, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

“The money is used to pay some bills regarding marketing like signs and paper for the (protest),” managers wrote in the email. “We are waiting for more instructions in regards of the above.”

Desjardins specifically named a couple who deposited $20,000.
