West Side Story reclassified over ‘transphobic remarks’

Transphobic Puerto Rican Dance Sequence “Hey Ramone My HooHoo is real”

West Side Story should only be watched by children over 12 because it features “transphobia”, a regulator has ruled.

Sexism, racism, violence and sexual threat are other issues that have led to the classic 1961 film musical being changed from PG to 12 by the British Board of Film Certification (BBFC).

Films are regularly reviewed to ensure that their certificates are appropriate for the current audience. The home entertainment rating of West Side Story was changed to reflect that the language and attitudes of the 1960s are less acceptable in the modern world.

That “regulator” should be beaten with sticks.

The West is spending big on nuclear plants again – and taking taxpayers along for the ride

One question separates announced but purely hypothetical nuclear power plants from those that actually stand a chance of being built: Who’s going to pay for them?

In China and Russia, which dominated reactor construction for the past few decades, governments provided the funds. Advanced economies placed much greater emphasis on private capital. That approach was intended to impose greater commercial discipline and protect the public purse but led to very few reactors being built in the West.

America’s free speech tsar: ‘We reject Brits who censor the US’

Eurotrash Censorship Weenies

As most of the country wound down for Christmas, the Trump administration had other ideas. On Tuesday night, the State Department announced sanctions against five Europeans. The charge? Not corruption, terrorism or espionage. Instead, it was crimes against freedom of speech.

After Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, announced the sanctions, Sarah Rogers, the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy, followed up with details of the five individuals, who include the former European commissioner, Thierry Breton, and two British citizens, Imran Ahmed and Clare Melford.

She said Ahmed, head of the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, and Melford, chief executive of the Global Disinformation Index, were guilty of “extraterritorial censorship of Americans”. “Our message is clear,” she said: “if you spend your career fomenting censorship of American speech, you’re unwelcome on American soil.”

Civil servants who let in sex offender migrants would lose pensions under Reform

Civil servants who have knowingly let foreign sex offenders into Britain would be prosecuted under a Reform UK government, and face losing their jobs and pensions.

Nigel Farage’s party said it would legislate to create a new criminal offence of “dishonestly determining an asylum claim”, punishable by up to two years in prison.

Under the policy, civil servants found to have committed the offence would also face a number of potential sanctions, including being forced to give up their civil service pension, and dismissal for gross misconduct.

It should apply to any civil servant who allowed a Muslim to enter the UK.

Matthew Taub: Eaton Centre mob wasn’t a protest. It was a warning

On Boxing Day, a pro-Palestinian mob took over the Eaton Centre, one of Canada’s busiest and most iconic public spaces, chanting for “intifada” in the heart of Toronto. Not on the fringes. Not quietly. In the middle of a mall filled with families, workers, tourists, and holiday shoppers.

This did not happen in a vacuum. And it cannot be dismissed as just another protest.

Brigitte Bardot dies aged 91

Brigitte Bardot, the French actress turned political activist, has died at the age of 91.

The international sex symbol achieved fame with her film And God Created Woman, going on to embody the archetypal “sex kitten” role, before retiring from the screen and becoming an animal rights advocate.

In a statement, her foundation said: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.”

Proof the Border Is Historically Secure Can Be Found in CBP’s Monthly Stats

Lost in the din of a violent week is CBP’s release of its statistics for agency “encounters” for the month of November. They reveal that not only is the border secure, but historically secure and becoming more so. Illegal migrant “travel season” starts in February, however, and we’ll soon see how long it lasts, but for now the greatest border accomplishment of Trump II can be measured in the record low number of alien children who are attempting to cross illegally – news you likely won’t hear about anywhere else.

Canadian politics in the year ahead

The year 2025 was a sharp reminder of just how unpredictable Canadian politics can be. Events moved quickly, and long-held assumptions collapsed almost overnight.

At the start of last year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was still clinging to power. The Liberals were far behind in the polls, and it seemed all but certain that Pierre Poilievre would soon lead a Conservative super-majority government.

We all know how that story ended.
