Sometimes policy change is necessitated by reality. The welcome new entente cordiale between Ottawa and Alberta, fast tracking new energy developments, marks a pleasant example.

This is all the more remarkable since Prime Minister Mark Carney, was once a leading voice against fossil fuels; as head of the Bank of England, he led the charge for banks to bankroll the much-ballyhooed transition to renewables. Yet a decade later, he appears to have shifted from a “net-zero” crusader to seeking to become “an energy superpower.”

I doubt Carney has had a road to Damascus moment.

Hero Of Bondi

The hero who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach attackers by grabbing his gun is a father-of-two fruit shop owner.

The death toll has risen to 16 after two gunmen opened fire at the popular tourist beach in Sydney on Sunday evening where a Jewish Hanukkah celebration was underway.

Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been named by relatives as the man fighting one of the terrorists in a video shared widely on social media.

He may be a Maronite Christian and not a Muslim.

When I was a child, I once, after being told off by my mother, conspicuously gathered together some treasured toys into a tea towel, and wrapped them onto the end of a broom handle, as I had seen tramps do in cartoons. Declaring that I was running away, I made it as far as the garden gate, where I lingered for some long minutes, waiting for my mother to rush out and usher me back into the warm security of home, torn between the certainty that she would — and a dread anxiety that I was, as I had declared I wanted, now truly on my own. So it is today with Europe’s political elites, endlessly declaring that this time everything has changed, and the continent must now stand on its own in a harsh and frightening world, while secretly anticipating, with mounting dread, to be ushered back into America’s stifling if protective embrace. Yet in this instance, our rulers must be careful what they wish for.

2 dead at Rob Reiner’s LA home, LAPD’s robbery-homicide division responds

LOS ANGELES — Two people have been found dead inside the Brentwood home of director Rob Reiner, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to The Post.

Officers were called to the home Sunday afternoon. It’s currently unclear who the victims are, but a spokesperson for the department noted that detectives from LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division were also at the scene.

The Los Angeles Fire Department told NBC Los Angeles that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead inside the home.

Muslims kill for their poisonous death cult of Islam

Australia died tonight.

An obscene number of people were shot down in cold blood celebrating a Jewish holiday on the iconic and wonderful Bondi Beach. Murdered, most likely, by religious fanatics. Murdered, possibly, by people who came, or whose parents came, to this country and imported a toxic, deadly, and poisonous ideology.

Nobody thought to stop them entering this country. Nobody thought to question their fitness to be new Australian citizens.

A new poll reveals what mass attendance actually predicts about virtue and deportation policy.

America’s Catholic bishops may incessantly complain about President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda, but American Catholics actually support such measures as mass deportations. EWTN News and RealClear Opinion Research published a poll late last week which found that a majority (54 percent) of American Catholics favor mass deportations, including 27.5 percent (the largest share recorded in the poll) who “strongly favor” the policy, while only 30 percent oppose it and less than 17 percent expressed indifference. Support for the “detention and deportation of unauthorized immigrants on a broad scale” increased to 60 percent among white Catholics and opposition fell to 26 percent.

Vivian Bercovici: Bondi Beach massacre is what globalizing the intifada looks likes

More than 1,000 Jewish people congregated on Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday to celebrate the first night of Chanukah, a festival of light and miracles.

What unfolded was disturbingly reminiscent of October 7. Two gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons targeting the gathering of Jews. Shouts of “Allahu Akhbar” were reportedly heard. One of the gunmen is captured on video warning people who were not Jewish to run away. The event was unguarded, but the nearest police station was a mere 150 metres away. Eyewitnesses say it took what seemed like an eternity for police to arrive and respond, between five and 10 minutes.
