Prime Minister Mark Carney and Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin have adopted former Liberal environment minister Catherine McKenna’s approach to talking to the public about climate change.
In 2019, she uploaded to her Twitter (now X) account a video of her being “screeched in” at Christian’s Pub in St. John’s, N.L., complete with her kissing the cod.
A man has been arrested in the Jan. 6, 2021, pipe bomb case, and is expected to appear in court later Thursday, according to a person familiar with the development who was granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive case.
No arrests had previously been reported in connection with pipe bombs discovered outside the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican National Committees on the same day as the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. The bombs, which the FBI has described as “viable” but did not detonate, were believed to be planted the day before.
Update – Suspect ID’d
The suspect arrested for planting pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic National Committees ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots has been identified as Brian Cole of Virginia, sources confirmed to The Post.
They got the pipe bomber! Per NBC, he’s been identified as Brian Cole.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has displayed a remarkable willingness to dismantle the legacy of his predecessor across the public policy board.
In the coming months, he may be tempted to take another look at one of the more indefensible decisions made by former prime minister Justin Trudeau’s government: the expansion of its medical assistance in dying legislation.
Swedish taxpayers have been funding organisations tied to extremism, a leading political scientist warns, including a mosque that Sweden’s security service says has been used as an intelligence hub for the Iranian regime.
The Imam Ali Islamic Centre in Järfälla received 3.2 million kronor (€292,000) in 2023 from the Swedish Agency for Support for Religious Communities (SST). The money was channelled via the Islamic Shia Associations in Sweden (ISS), which shares the mosque’s address and has taken in 28.5 million kronor (€2.6 million) in subsidies since 2006. In total, SST handed out 80 million kronor (€7.3 million) to religious groups last year.
The public relations war between supporters of the F-35 and Gripen has taken another twist as an internal Department of National Defence document comparing the two fighter jets has been leaked.
Canada’s fighter jet debate continues with still no decision from Prime Minister Mark Carney on which aircraft his government will purchase. The choice comes down to the U.S.-built F-35 versus the Swedish Gripen fighter aircraft. Some analysts are also proposing a combination fleet of both jets to meet the Canadian military’s needs.
What does the latest round of diplomacy on Ukraine tell us about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s mood and intentions?
For starters, that he’s not ready to sign a peace deal. At least, not right now.
And certainly not the deal (or deals) on the table.
“No compromise version has yet been found,” commented Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov after five hours of talks in Moscow involving Putin, US envoy Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
No compromise is no real surprise, considering the Kremlin leader’s uncompromising comments in recent days.
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney sought to assure hundreds of First Nations chiefs Tuesday that the federal government will not impose a pipeline or other resource projects over their objections after they unanimously called for the withdrawal of his Alberta energy deal.
But the prime minister stopped short of guaranteeing that Indigenous Peoples will have a veto over resource developments, saying only that his government believes in the importance of Indigenous participation and consultation, along with Indigenous equity stakes and benefits from such projects.
One in five Canadians say they do not have a family doctor and face health-care challenges as a result, according to a recent survey.
The survey, conducted by Angus Reid in collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society was released on Nov. 28.
The survey also found that many Canadians who do have a family doctor report it is difficult to get an appointment, waiting at least a week or more to be seen. Survey authors say that is because doctors are taking on too much.
LIKE him or loathe him, question his inconsistencies and his many other flaws, but in my view Donald Trump’s response to the shooting of two members of the West Virginia National Guard in Washington DC by an Afghan migrant was spot on.
There was none of the pussyfooting ‘my thoughts are with . . .’ etc. Without equivocation, he immediately branded the shooting ‘an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror’, adding: ‘It was a crime against our entire nation.’
