Freeland tasked with tapping Canadian businesses to help rebuild Ukraine

OTTAWA – Seven weeks ago, Prime Minister Mark Carney assigned former cabinet minister Chrystia Freeland to be Canada’s new special envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Canadians haven’t heard much about the job since, and nothing at all about how Ukraine can be rebuilt while Russia continues its wide-scale bombing of critical infrastructure.

But experts say Canada has a major opportunity now to help preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and international law — and to turn a profit in multiple sectors.

Where is the money to replace Canada’s aging submarines? It wasn’t in the 2025 federal budget

Prime Minister Mark Carney has now climbed into two submarines on two continents – one on a production line in Germany, the other in the water in South Korea – yet the 2025 federal budget, which allocated more than $80 billion toward defence, made no mention of funding towards the much-needed vessels.

The Royal Canadian Navy is in the market to buy 12 conventional diesel-electric powered submarines and the federal government has narrowed the competition to two companies: ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) and Hanwha Ocean.

Mamdani is a political tragedy for those who love Western freedoms

The new mayor of New York seems straight out of the pen of the famous Daily Telegraph humorist, Peter Simple.

Like Mrs. Dutt-Pauker, who symbolized the “Hampstead Liberal,” the typical representative of the United Kingdom’s progressive elites. Mrs. Dutt-Pauker is a very wealthy heiress living in Hampstead, in a mansion called “Marxmount House,” where she collects a pair of Bukharin’s teeth, Ming vases, constructivist art, and Stalin’s writings. Mrs. Dutt-Pauker is in love with Walter Ulbricht, the communist leader of East Germany, and has a son named “Brecht Mao Rudy Che” – in honor of the communist playwright, the Great Chinese Helmsman, the ’68 leader, and Che Guevara.

The French car attack proves Islam’s ceaseless menace

A man shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ drove his car into a crowd on France’s Ile d’Oléron this morning. At least ten people on the popular holiday destination – situated off the Atlantic Coast – were injured, and three are in a critical condition. Police arrested the driver, a 35-year-old man with a history of petty crime. A search of his vehicle revealed some gas cylinders.

Among the injured is 22-year-old Emma Vallain, a parliamentary assistant to Pascal Markowsky, an MP in Marine Le Pen’s National Rally. A rising star in the party, she took part in a televised debate at the weekend about the current political deadlock in France.

The Mirage of ‘Humanitarian Reconstruction’: Billions for Gaza — But Who Will Prevent the Next Jihad?

When the guns fall silent, Western governments rush to rebuild. The European Union, the United States, and several Arab states are now pledging tens of billions of dollars to “reconstruct” Gaza. The impulse may be humane, but the outcome could be catastrophic. Unless funds are subjected to strict, transparent and enforceable controls, they will once again be used to fertilize the same terror infrastructure responsible for Gaza’s destruction.

Carney can count on Canadians’ patience for only so long

“Patience is a virtue.” In today’s world, however, particularly in politics, this adage is being put to the test. With the many challenges society currently faces, populations can quickly turn on those they elect if they don’t see things changing rapidly enough.

It’s been over six months since Mark Carney was elected prime minister with hopes soaring sky high that someone of his economic experience and heft would get Canada back on track.

Ford’s electric F-150 Lightning pickup may be all but dead

America’s best-selling electric pickup may be headed for the chopping block. According to a new WSJ report, Ford is now considering killing off the F-150 Lightning.

After Ford halted production of the electric pickup at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, earlier this year, it may never return to the assembly line.

Ford announced during its third-quarter earnings that F-150 Lightning production would remain paused after a fire at Novelis’ plant in New York disrupted aluminum supply.

DOBBIE: The “transformative” budget

One thing the Carney Liberals are masters of is spin. They have been proclaiming the wonders of their very late budget for weeks and have managed to turn water into wine for many Canadians — not the least of which was a Tory backbencher who defected to the other side on budget day.

Apparently, they had been working on this fellow for years, trying to convince him to become a Liberal, and it finally took when he became disgruntled over not being made a deputy speaker — or something like that. They also brought in the heavy artillery, and Carney himself persuaded him. Whatever the details, he walked.

How do two privileged New Jersey teens get seduced by ISIS?

Milo Sedarat Deprived Yute

Two teenagers from one of New Jersey’s wealthiest suburbs were arrested this week for allegedly plotting to join ISIS and carry out mass killings of Jews.

According to federal prosecutors, Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel and Milo Sedarat, both 19, both from Montclair, had stockpiled weapons, posed with an ISIS flag, and fantasized online about attacks on Jewish communities.

Sedarat, the son of a well-known poet, reportedly said he wanted to “execute 500 Jews” and “mow down” pro-Israel marchers in his hometown.

What Happens to the Conservative Party Without Pierre Poilievre? Canadians Weigh In on Potential Leadership Alternatives

Leadership hypotheticals are always speculative, but they’re not pointless. Political leadership is about more than brand management or media presence, it’s the centre of the coalition, the public face of a movement, and often the determining factor in voting behaviour.

That’s why we conducted a survey of 2,922 Canadian adults between October 24 and 29, 2025, for the Toronto Star, exploring what might happen if Pierre Poilievre were no longer leading the federal Conservative Party. Would voters be more or less inclined to support the party? Are there other Conservative figures who might perform better in an election? And what does all this say about the shape and limits of the Conservative coalition today?
