The Ignoble, Ignorable UN

Trump has kept US foreign policy from bowing to the United Nations — but future Democratic presidents are unlikely to do the same.

If Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris or even Gavin Nuisance were president of the United States, our foreign policy would be made subservient to the United Nations. As President Trump proved about two weeks ago, it’s easy to ignore the UN — and get other nations to do the same — if a president is so minded.

Canada will start dispute resolution process over Stellantis jobs lost to U.S., Joly says

Canada is starting a dispute resolution process against Stellantis after the automaker said last month that it’s moving jobs to the U.S.

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly told a parliamentary committee Monday that Ottawa wants to recover some of the billions it has committed to Stellantis.

Joly said Stellantis moving production of the Jeep Compass from Brampton, Ont., to Illinois is a violation of a contract.

Canada’s first battery plant in Windsor will produce energy storage batteries as EV sales slump persists

Nextstar Energy Ltd. will produce batteries for energy storage, not electric vehicles, when its gigafactory in Windsor, Ont. begins commercial production next month.

Expanding into the growing market for energy storage production will keep the plant busy until EV sales pick up again, said Danies Lee, chief executive of Nextstar.

“The EV market is slowed down,” said Lee, chief executive of Nextstar. “It’s like a trend that will come soon, but it does not come as soon as we expect it, so while we are waiting, we have this opportunity from the (energy storage system) ESS market.”

NDP says abstention is an option on budget vote

The NDP is not ruling out the possibility that some or all of its seven MPs could abstain when the minority Liberal government’s budget is put to a vote in the House of Commons.

The government has warned of the possibility of a snap election unless at least one other party steps forward to allow approval of the budget, which will be tabled Tuesday.

NDP Interim Leader Don Davies said it’s possible that some NDP MPs will opt to vote neither for nor against the budget.

Mayors to Cities: Drop Dead

Far-left policies on policing, education, and taxation are pushing Los Angeles, Chicago, and others to the brink.

Rick Cole has spent several decades running cities, both as an elected official and as a planner. He has worked in suburban Azusa, California, and progressive-dominated Santa Monica and currently sits on the Pasadena City Council. Yet as he looks out at the urban future, he feels despair—most particularly, about the city of Los Angeles, where he recently departed as deputy mayor and chief deputy controller.

Fearing fraud, Canada rejects most Indian study permit applicants

TORONTO — Canada’s clampdown on international students has hit applicants from India particularly hard, government data shows, as what was once a preferred destination loses its allure for Indian students.

Canada lowered the number of international student permits it issues for the second year in a row in early 2025 as part of a broader effort to reduce the number of temporary migrants and address fraud related to student visas.

About 74 per cent of Indian applications for permits to study at Canadian post-secondary institutions in August — the most recent month available –- were rejected, compared to about 32 per cent in August 2023, according to immigration department data provided to Reuters.

They should be rejecting every last one.

However, more and more companies are questioning the feasibility of these requirements. The withdrawal affects approximately seven percent of all participating companies.

B.C. court decision opens floodgates for future Aboriginal land title claims

The August ruling in the British Columbia case of Cowichan Tribes v. Canada marks a sea change in real property law and Indigenous rights law in Canada. In a 288,000-word decision, Justice Barbara Young ruled that the Cowichan Tribes hold Aboriginal title to as many as 1,846 acres of prime land in downtown Richmond, B.C., owned by the federal government, the City of Richmond, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and numerous private landowners.

At the heart of the decision is the historical fact that more than 150 years ago the British government sold the land to white settlers without properly dealing with Indigenous rights.

I’m Sorry, But HOW MANY Illegals Get Food Stamps?

It’s astounding, the things we learn when the money runs out and governments actually have to start prioritizing for a change. As the Schumer Shutdown drags through Week Five with no end in sight, the country’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — aka “food stamps” — ran out of money on Saturday. And given who was taking, it’s a miracle that there was any money left at all.
