Four worked for Nasa; three of them were even on the same team. Two had worked together at the same national laboratory in New Mexico. Another – a former senior air force research engineer who left his home on Feb 27 and hasn’t been seen since – had been involved in UFO research after his retirement.

Prime Minister Mark Carney made the announcement at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Armenia, on Monday.

Carney says Canada will contribute about $270 million toward critical military capabilities, drawn from NATO’s prioritized list of needs for Ukraine.

The funding adds to more than $25 billion Canada has already committed to supporting Ukraine since Russia launched its full‑scale invasion in 2022.

Is there a collective security benefit to wearing Putin’s army down? Probably, but that means Ukraine is defending Euro states with their own dubious commitment to self defense.

Do Ukrainians appreciate being cannon fodder for that purpose? Probably not.

1 in 10 Canadian citizens live in poverty. Carney has no business swanning about Europe doling out cash to burnish his bona fides as Captain Euroguy.

Carney knows a good grift when he sees one.

Millions of Syrians are returning home—but of the more than 900,000 living in Germany, very few have shown an interest in leaving, official figures show.

According to figures from the UN’s refugee agency UNHCR, reported by Welt, over 1.6 million Syrian refugees have returned since Bashar al-Assad’s regime was toppled in December 2024, most of them from neighboring countries: 634,000 from Turkey; 621,000 from Lebanon; and 284,000 from Jordan.

In the report, Germany is included in a category called “other countries”—with just over 6,000 returnees in total.

Much has been said since March about how Avi Lewis has finally and fully landed in the family business, following in the footsteps of his father, Stephen, and his grandfather, David, who also were leaders for the New Democrats.

But Lewis has always been in a family business. His mother, Michele Landsberg, wrote for this paper for more than 25 years, and journalism runs in Lewis’s blood as much as politics. It was his first career and many people still know him from his broadcasting days, hosting the CBC TV show Counterspin and farther back, on City TV in Toronto.

Toronto is up to the challenge. There is no bottom to this town’s stupid.
