Ontario reports 865 new Covid cases … and an October Lockdown???

Ontario reports multi-month high of nearly 900 COVID-19 cases; 14 more deaths

Ontario reported 865 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths on Thursday, the highest count of cases seen since early June, with the greatest number of infections among unvaccinated people since the province started keeping track earlier this summer.

The Thursday tally is the highest standalone case count recorded in Ontario since June 4 when 914 cases were reported.

COVID-19 vaccination rate must rise above 85% to avoid fall lockdown

New modelling released Wednesday by Ontario’s COVID-19 science advisory table says more than 85 per cent of the eligible population needs to be vaccinated to avoid a lockdown this fall due to the highly contagious delta variant.

The table said Ontarians also need to reduce contacts to about 70 per cent of pre-pandemic levels until vaccination levels are high enough to protect the population.
