Ontario reports 373 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths

Ontario is reporting just under 400 new COVID-19 cases today as the number of active infections in the province continues to decline.

Provincial health officials logged 373 new COVID-19 cases today, down from 443 on Sunday and 458 one week ago.


Immunology professor says people over 65 should pretend they’re not vaccinated

A COVID-19 antibodies researcher expects to see more deaths among fully vaccinated people as vaccine effectiveness begins to wane.

“The vulnerable are becoming vulnerable again,” said Rodney Russell, a professor of immunology and infectious diseases at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

He said research is showing that the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccinations begins to fade after six or seven months. And since older and vulnerable groups were vaccinated first, they’re seeing the first signs of waning immunity.

TORONTO — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday released a statement thanking Canadian small business owners for their “dedication, perseverance, and innovation,” less than a week before a number COVID-19 pandemic financial support programs for businesses and individuals are scheduled to end.

On Oct. 23 – the last day of Small Business Week – the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) and the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) are set to expire. Both programs have been extended several times since being implemented in 2020.
