Toronto mayor John Tory under investigation by city’s integrity commissioner over Rogers ties

Toronto’s integrity commissioner is investigating the city’s mayor, John Tory, over an alleged conflict of interest relating to his ties to telecom, media and sports giant Rogers Communications Inc.

The alleged conflict relates to Mr. Tory’s role in a city council debate over weekend closures of Toronto’s Lake Shore Boulevard West as part of the ActiveTO program.

Will Smith posts an apology video for slapping Chris Rock

NEW YORK (AP) — Will Smith has again apologized to Chris Rock for slapping him during the Oscar telecast in a new video, saying that his behavior was “unacceptable” and that he had reached out to the comedian to discuss the incident but was told Rock wasn’t ready.

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” Smith said in the under-six minute video posted online Friday. “I am deeply remorseful and I’m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself.” To Rock, he said: “I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Wikipedia takes cue from White House and re-defines ‘recession’

Wikipedia has changed the definition of ‘recession’ and locked the page from further edits. These changes were made during the week that the White House proposed a re-definition of recession to mean something other than two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth.

Biden Is So Obsessed With Trans He’s Demanding Coverage of Boob Jobs for Men

The Biden administration is obsessed with trans. On his first day in office, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to essentially conflate gender identity with biological sex, indicating that there is no difference under law between a woman— who was born female— and a biological male who self-identifies as a woman. This retroactively rewrites the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity instead of protection on the basis of biological sex.

Supreme Court rules not wearing condom against partner’s wishes could lead to sexual assault conviction

People who don’t wear condoms during sex after being told to by their sexual partners can be convicted of sexual assault, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled today.

In its unanimous decision, the top court ruled that “stealthing” — the act of pretending to use a condom, or removing one prior to sex without the partner’s consent — can violate the legal grounds for consensual sex.

“Sex with and without a condom are fundamentally and qualitatively distinct forms of physical touching,” Justice Sheilah Martin wrote in the majority decision.

Quebec leads explosive growth in Conservative membership sales: party numbers

There are now more Conservative members in Quebec than in the party’s heartland province of Saskatchewan.

Taken together, Ontario and Quebec now account for more than half of the party’s 678,708 total members eligible to vote in the Sept. 10 leadership contest. By any measure, the growth in Conservative numbers during the 2022 contest has been unprecedented in recent Canadian politics.

Spain: Prosecutors to seek 8-year prison term for Shakira

MADRID — Prosecutors in Spain said Friday they would ask a court to sentence Colombian pop star Shakira to eight years and two months in prison, if she is convicted in her expected trial for alleged tax fraud.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is charged with failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014. The prosecutors said they would also seek a fine of 24 million euros ($24 million).
