
It’s ironic that the fate of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government rests in the hands of organized labour.
Labour was rarely central to the government. The Liberals dealt with it when they had to do so. In the lead-up to the revision of NAFTA, for instance, the government found it convenient to make use of UNIFOR, the union that represents most autoworkers.
And it always treated union leaders with the greatest of respect.
