A transgender activist brought the men’s road race at the Cycling World Championships to a halt on Sunday, protesting about petrochemical sponsorship and the exclusion of transgender athletes.
Five people were arrested after they halted the elite men’s road race, in what one of the activists said had been a response to the sport’s recent ruling that only biological women could compete in female events.
