In 2018, the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on British Muslims proposed the first working definition of Islamophobia in the UK. In its report, Islamophobia Defined, it stated that ‘Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness’.
