Joel Kotkin: As antisemitism surges on the left, Jews are pushed to the right

Post Oct 7 and the stupid grows stronger.

Jewish Canadians will soon confront a new world that requires new allies

In the ever-shrinking world of the Jewish diaspora, Canada, along with Australia and the United States, hosts a most vital and comparatively healthy community. Yet in the midst of the current Israel-Hamas war, that community as well as those elsewhere, are under a siege that, at very least, will change their social and political orientation.

I doubt a major sea change is in the offing within Canada’s Jewish community.

Once the current war is over and forgotten the message will be softened and bygones declared bygones.

Many are shocked at the extent of anti-semitism that has revealed itself since Oct 7th but most were content to march in lockstep with their fellow “decolonizers”  so long as white people were the primary target.

That’s because “decolonizing” whitey has an evergreen appeal to leftists given it’s institutional approval by all levels of Canadian government and our entire education system.

The left weaponized CRT, DEI, mass immigration, multiculturaism and diversity and they’ve been successful in their application so it is unlikely leftist Jews and organizations will give them up.

The “Far Right,” code for white people, has proven itself a hugely successful fund raising gimmick for CRT pushers like the ADL.  No way will they give up that revenue stream and the social capital it bought them with the BLM’s of the world.

Kotkin’s version of “New Allies” doesn’t include President Trump whom he labels toxic. I wonder if he feels the same way about Trump’s supporters. It would only follow.

I’ll bide my time before accepting as an ally former decolonizers claiming to have had a moment of clarity.
