
Ontario’s school boards reached a flashpoint in gender identity politics in 2023, a decisive shift in the public education landscape from just a few years prior. Controversies spanned issues of LGBT library books, teacher dress codes, Pride flag displays and the contentious topic of social transition without parental consent or knowledge. Frustration over these issues (and the school boards’ frequent refusal to address them) eventually culminated in the country-wide Million March for Children protest at the end of September.
