Customers are fed up with anti-theft measures at stores. Retailers say organized crime is to blame

Susan Dennison recently had an unsettling experience at her local grocery store, a Loblaw-owned Fortinos in Burlington, Ont.

Just as she was leaving, the wheels on her shopping cart locked up — making it immobile.

She said a store employee rushed over and demanded to see her receipt.

I find self-checkout to be the worst “advance” in retail. Costco bill check is a minor annoyance. But I do recommend you check grocery bills for billing errors, I have caught several including one from Costco in just the past 6 months. Not huge mistakes maybe 30 bucks in total. My local Farmboy is not to be trusted, and I wonder if it’s as I suspect their “Foreign Student” hiring practices. A constant turnover in staff can’t help.
