Hellmann’s renames vegan mayonnaise to appeal to ‘flexitarians’

Hellmann’s has renamed its vegan mayonnaise as “plant-based” as it wants to be more “inclusive” to flexitarians.

An egg-free version of the US brand’s best-known product launched in Britain in 2018, as more people turned to a vegan diet for ethical or health reasons.

However, the company said it would no longer use the term “vegan” on the product’s packaging as it could be off-putting for flexitarians – people who eat mostly plant foods but occasionally include meat, eggs or fish.
