Dana Kontorsky, a 27-year-old social worker, was at the Fuego Fuego music festival in Montreal last month wearing a Star of David necklace. She was getting drinks when she saw a girl in a keffiyeh, a traditional Middle Eastern scarf that has become a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The girl looked at Kontorsky’s necklace and called her a “nasty Jew.”
