How a ‘Southport Wake Up’ Telegram post sparked fears of far-Right rallies

Not long after police had taken off their riot gear and finished their shifts after a weekend of violence, in the early hours of Monday morning, anonymous members of the far-Right were already posting a hit list of new targets.

At 1.59am, subscribers to a Telegram group named Southport Wake Up created by members of the far-Right received a message flashing up on their phone with 11 fire emojis followed by the words “Wednesday night lads” in capitals.

“They won’t stop coming until you tell them,” it read. “No more immigration […] 8pm/mask up /spread this as far and wide as you can.”
