Toronto police have arrested 48 people — including 11 youths, the youngest of whom is 14-years-old — and laid 406 charges as part of two “proactive” gun violence initiatives, Projects Community and Springboard.
After seeing a rise in gun violence in their division in the beginning of the year, Toronto police’s 43 Division initiated Project Community, Det. Sgt. Jeremy Hayes told reporters.
Reducing Gun Crime in 43 Division
Officers in 43 Division seized 24 firearms and recovered three stolen vehicles through two projects initiated at the start of the year to address gun violence in the East Scarborough community.
“Since the seizure of these firearms, we have noticed a marked decrease in gun violence with one firearm discharge in July and one in August,” said Detective Jeremy Hayes.
No word on the Diversity ratio.
