In 2016 I believed Hillary would triumph, and dressed up as her for Halloween. I won’t make the same mistake again
I’m rummaging through our dressing up drawer, trying to find inspiration for this year’s Halloween outfit.
When I see it. Hillary Clinton’s face hasn’t aged well. The cheeks are sallow and concave, the forehead pockmarked where the latex has begun to deteriorate – and yet despite these ravages the former Secretary of State is still baring her teeth in a rictus grin.
I last wore this mask eight years ago, almost to the day, and suddenly I’m taken back to the night I put it on and went trick-or-treating in the streets around our house in LA. It was eight days before the 2016 election and the general, pretty smug consensus was that Hillary was going to win.
