How Chinese espionage conquered Western capitalism

Spy networks controlled by Beijing pose a growing threat around the world – as Yang Tengbo’s links to Prince Andrew have shown

The revelation that a suspected Chinese spy may have used his relationship with Prince Andrew to try and get close to British authorities could hardly have come at a worse time for the UK government. Sir Keir Starmer has been busily attempting to defrost relations with Beijing. The discovery of an alleged China-backed agent at the heart of the British establishment has inevitably resulted in calls for heightened vigilance from China hawks.

Iain Duncan Smith, a former Conservative leader, has said the latest scandal is just “the tip of the iceberg” of China’s attempts to infiltrate the UK, adding that Starmer’s attempted rapprochement with Beijing has resulted in the his government “showing a massive amount of weakness to China.”
