The TDSB is set to condemn swaths of Canadian history at exactly the wrong moment

I haven’t checked, but I wonder if someone forgot to change the calendar on the wall of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) headquarters. Over there it still seems to be 2021 or 2022.

Back then it was all the rage to rename schools, streets, public squares, even whole universities, to erase the names of problematic historical figures. Statues came toppling down or were covered up, all the better to hide the images of men (almost always men) whose legacy we now find unacceptable. Dundas, Ryerson, Macdonald — names once honoured in the land were blackened.
