Mannheim Car Attack Driver Identified As Alexander S

MANNHEIM. According to initial investigations, the man who deliberately drove over pedestrians in Mannheim city center was a 40-year-old German named Alexander S. The public prosecutor’s office in the Baden-Württemberg city announced this on Monday evening. According to the authorities, he shows “concrete signs of a mental illness.”

The perpetrator had raced a kilometer through the Planken pedestrian zone in his small car, a blue Ford Fiesta, and deliberately drove at people on Paradeplatz in order to kill as many as possible. An 83-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man died in the fatal drive. Ten other pedestrians were injured, some seriously. The public prosecutor’s office has initiated proceedings for double murder and multiple attempted murder.

Tweet translation:

“According to media reports, this is the perpetrator from Mannheim.
Alexander S. from Ludwigshafen.
He only posted dog videos and a video of a street artist painting over swastikas.
So one cannot attribute a Nazi ideology to him.
He also did not share any political content on his Facebook page.
He just looks like a typical crazy person who is seriously injured.
