Engineers are racing to save the furnaces at British Steel’s Scunthorpe site after a “sabotage” attempt by its owners to push reliance on Chinese steel, the Times understands.
Ministers have stopped short of publicly accusing Jingye of deliberately trying to shut down the site, but sources told The Times that a string of actions pointed to the company taking steps that would lead to Britain becoming reliant on cheap Chinese steel.
