A hairy Sudanese asylum seeker with a deep voice is a child, an immigration tribunal has ruled.
The court said that having physical attributes such as hairy legs and arms was not a “useful indicator” of age, dismissing assessments by the Home Office and a council that the asylum seeker was in his mid-20s. It backed his claim that he was 16 years old.
The Home Office had claimed his physical appearance “very strongly suggested” that he was “significantly over 18” and stated that he was likely to be around 24.
