Hamas accepts US ceasefire but adds demands Israel will refuse

The militant group responded to Steve Witkoff’s proposal with conditions including a permanent truce and the IDF’s withdrawal from Gaza

Hamas has said it is willing to agree to a US-led ceasefire proposal but has also offered a new timeline and demanded a permanent end to hostilities.

The militant group’s response — the most promising sign of progress towards a peace deal since March — accepted some of the terms of the original proposal drawn up by Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s Middle East envoy. Those included the handover of ten live hostages and the bodies of 18 dead hostages.
