Zohran Mamdani has pledged to raise taxes on “whiter neighbourhoods” if he becomes New York mayor.
The self-described socialist earlier this week beat Andrew Cuomo, the former New York governor, in the Democratic primary, earning him the party’s nomination for November’s mayoral election.
Following his win on Tuesday, fresh details of Mr Mamdani’s radical agenda have emerged, including a plan to “shift the tax burden” to “richer, whiter neighbourhoods”.
