Titan submersible disaster was ‘preventable’ tragedy, Coast Guard says

The implosion of a submersible that killed all five aboard trying to visit the wreckage of the Titanic was “preventable” if not for the company’s “failure to follow established engineering protocols,” the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday in a report on the 2023 incident.

The Titan submersible disaster brought international attention to the world of deep-sea tourism, which experts say lacks adequate oversight to ensure safety. The 335-page report follows the Coast Guard’s investigative hearing that lasted two weeks in September.
