Cat on a wire

Xavier, twist tie and my chair

This is Xavier’s favourite toy, yes a twist tie.

He has played with it every day for weeks always with the same goal.

He deliberately bats it under the garbage can so he has reason to reach into the unknown and pluck it out again.

Except he isn’t always successful retrieving it.

That’s when he sits watch beside the can and meows plaintively until I am forced to rescue his twist tie.

No lie I have done this 10’s of times for him.

Yesterday he managed a new trick which had me turning the place upside down in a frenzied hunt for his twist tie.

The mewling was unbearable but there he sat at the garbage can in vigilant watch for the tie’s rescue.

I turned the can over 3 or 4 times and it simply wasn’t there.

Until early this morning. Xavier took up his position shortly after breakfast and in a last ditch effort to preserve my sanity I searched the bottom of the overturned garbage can.

Lo and behold it had somehow become wedged into a gap that rendered it unseeable!

Xavier and his twist tie had a joyful if brief reunion. Soon he was sat at the can mewling in mourning for his once again disappeared toy.

It was not under the garbage can.

I spent most of the morning ignoring him, scolding him and sporadically searching every corner … again.

Then in a moment of inspiration I checked the hall closet, yup he had batted it under the closed door.

I tied the string to the twist tie to make it a little easier to find. Xavier is not pleased.
