THE WAR on Iran is not another ill-conceived Western intervention in the Middle East. It has been a long time coming. Unlike the false arguments made for the war in Iraq in 2003 and the ‘Arab Spring’ in 2011, Iran has been a continuous source of instability in the region. Without Iran there would be no Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon or Houthi action in Yemen. Settling the Sunni and Shia factions in Iraq after the Iraq war would have been much easier. And there would not have been the October 7 attacks on Israel.
The regime in Iran is plain old evil. The UK’s and Europe’s obsession with a negotiated settlement is madness. There can be no negotiation with an enemy that wishes to destroy you.
