Denmark to procure state-of-the-art Canadian assault rifle before Canada does

Despite the Department of Defence touting its new “fast-tracked” procurement strategy, a new Canadian-made assault rifle is already equipping Danish soldiers months before a Canadian will ever see one.

The C8 Modular Rail Rifle, first unveiled at an Ottawa military trade show in 2024, is lighter, more accurate and stealthier than the C7 assault rifle currently in Canadian Armed Forces service.

Margareta Dovgal: Unsurprising that central banker Carney thinks debt is ‘sovereign wealth

It’s neither sovereign, nor wealth, so it’s a mystery why Prime Minister Mark Carney has chosen this frame for his new $25 billion special project, the “Canada Strong Fund.”

One would typically expect a country announcing such a thing to have actually gone to the trouble of clearing debt and generating true sovereign wealth. The federal Liberals are conveniently skipping a few such steps.

Immigration minister says she’s accountable after former IRGC official was granted permit for FIFA event

Immigration Minister Lena Diab says she’s accountable after a senior Iranian soccer official with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — a listed terrorist group in Canada — was granted documents to travel to the country ahead of a pre-FIFA World Cup gathering in Vancouver, before ultimately getting turned around.

But Diab, who spent an hour fielding pointed questions about the case during a parliamentary committee Thursday afternoon, said she was not made aware of the decision to issue Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj documents to enter the country.

‘We Know You Live Right Here’: No Secrets in America’s New Surveillance Dragnet

‘We Know You Live Right Here’: No Secrets in America’s New Surveillance Dragnet

Liz McLellan spent a morning in January witnessing the work of federal agents who had arrived in Maine to pursue the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

Like other community activists, protesters and passersby around the U.S., McLellan took photos, including of an arrest. Then she followed a federal officer driving an unmarked vehicle to see where the agent was headed next.

McLellan was surprised when the agent led her to her own house and blocked her driveway. Other federal officers quickly arrived, boxing in her car with their own vehicles.

“This is a warning,” an agent told her, according to court records and a video recording. “We know you live right here.”

Doug Ford’s ‘gravy plane’ and secrecy fight test his political durability

Doug Ford’s ‘gravy plane’ and secrecy fight test his political durability

After being re-elected in 2004, U.S. president George W. Bush candidly revealed what he extrapolated from the vote.

“I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it,” Bush told reporters two days after the election.

Since being re-elected in 2025, Ontario Premier Doug Ford may not have been quite as blunt, but his third term in office has seen him blow through some precious political capital.

Catering to the Liberal-Left rather than the people who elected him is no longer paying off.

Quebec mosque shooter wants to move to medium-security prison due to safety concerns

Alexandre Bissonnette, who pleaded guilty to killing six men at a Quebec City mosque in 2017 is requesting to be moved to a medium-security prison, citing safety concerns.

The gunman opened fire in the Islamic Cultural Centre in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood nearly 10 years ago in an attack that left 19 injured and 17 children fatherless.

Bissonnette resided at the regional mental health centre in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que., from 2019 to 2023. He has been serving a life sentence at the Port-Cartier Institution, a maximum-security prison, since September 2023, but his lawyer, Sylvie Bordelais, argues that he could remain in a medium-security facility, given the results of several psychological analyses conducted during his detention.

Canadian Catholic priest says he was offered euthanasia twice in hospital

A Canadian Catholic priest says that he was twice offered euthanasia while recovering in hospital from a hip fracture, noting that he was “very shocked” that he was asked about the procedure, which has become rampant in Canada.

Seventy-nine-year-old Father Larry Holland, from the Archdiocese of Vancouver, recalled in a recent interview posted by the diocese’s publication, the B.C. Catholic, that he was twice offered an option to, in essence, take his own life with the help of medical staff.

Trump signs order authorizing oil pipeline project partially reviving Keystone XL

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says a key approval for a cross-border oil pipeline project to deliver more of the province’s crude to the United States is coming after years of advocacy from her government.

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a presidential permit authorizing the Bridger Pipeline expansion, considered a partial revival of the Keystone XL pipeline project.

The Keystone XL pipeline proposal was repeatedly killed and resurrected, and at one point cost Alberta taxpayers $1.3 billion.
