Canada had big EV battery recycling plans, but without regulations it’s the ‘Wild West,’ expert warns

Lithium

A few years ago, Li-Cycle was one of the biggest players in electric vehicle battery recycling in North America, providing a roadmap to a circular, sustainable economy for electric vehicles.

But just last month, the Toronto-based company filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and Canada after years of struggling to get a facility off the ground in Rochester, N.Y. The company said the planned hub would have been able to extract lithium and other critical minerals from recycled material to actually build new EV batteries — a crucial step that North American recyclers haven’t achieved on a commercial scale yet.

Elderly Former Constable Gets Justice After Being Arrested by UK Police for Thought Crimes

In February, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer sat down with Fox News’ Bret Baier, who asked him a question about Vice President JD Vance’s criticism of both Britain and the European Union’s censorship of free speech. Starmer responded, “We don’t believe in censoring speech…we champion free speech in the United Kingdom.”

The 2023 case of a man accused of thought crimes would indicate otherwise. Julian Foulkes, a retired special constable from Gillingham, Kent, did nothing but make a concerned response to an X post about the pro-Palestine protests that had erupted in the U.K. and the United States.

Vivian Bercovici: Carney offers nothing but empty words on protecting Jews, furthering Mideast peace

SDEROT, Israel — Wednesday marked 600 days since the Hamas attack on Israel. War still rages, civilians suffer and die, hostages languish and no end is in sight.

Harvard Has Trained So Many Chinese Communist Officials, They Call It Their ‘Party School’

Kennedy School of Government is favored by party cadres seeking career boosts

U.S. schools—and one prestigious institution in particular—have long offered up-and-coming Chinese officials a place to study governance, a practice that the Trump administration could end with a new effort to keep out what it says are Chinese students with Communist Party ties.

For decades, the party has sent thousands of mid-career and senior bureaucrats to pursue executive training and postgraduate studies on U.S. campuses, with Harvard University a coveted destination described by some in China as the top “party school” outside the country.

Alumni of such programs include a former vice president and Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s top negotiator in trade talks with the first Trump administration.

It’s certainly endorsed by Carney.

Ukraine launches major drone attack on Russian bombers, security official says

Ukraine has launched a “large-scale” drone attack against Russian military bombers in Siberia, striking more than 40 warplanes thousands of kilometres from its own territory, a security official said.

The claims could not be independently verified. But if confirmed, the attacks would mark Ukraine’s most damaging drone strike of the war to date, amid an escalation in cross-border incursions before planned peace talks in Istanbul on Monday.

“Ukrainian security services are carrying out a large-scale special operation aimed at destroying enemy bombers far from the front, in Russia,” the official was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying, adding a fire had broken out at the targeted Belaya airbase.

Ford considering Hwy. 401 tunnel as special economic zone where laws could be bypassed

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is indicating that Highway 401 could be designated as a special economic zone, allowing the province to fast-track its plans to construct a transit and traffic tunnel beneath it, while sidestepping a raft of environmental and municipal laws.

The province is currently in the process of passing Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, legislation it introduced to speed up mining projects in the north.

British fighter jets to carry nuclear bombs

Britain wants to purchase fighter jets capable of firing tactical nuclear weapons, in a major expansion of the deterrent intended to counter the growing threat posed by Russia.

Sir Keir Starmer’s government is in highly sensitive talks over the move, which would represent the biggest development in the UK’s deterrent since the Cold War and a recognition that the world has entered a more dangerous nuclear era.

John Healey, the defence secretary, and Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the head of the armed forces, are looking to acquire American-made fighter jets capable of launching gravity bombs with lower power than conventional nukes.
