Study shows men emit 26% more pollution due to eating red meat and driving more … calls for men bans mount

Car use and meat consumption drive emissions gender gap, research suggests

Cars and meat are major factors driving a gender gap in greenhouse gas emissions, new research suggests.

Men emit 26% more planet-heating pollution than women from transport and food, according to a preprint study of 15,000 people in France. The gap shrinks to 18% after controlling for socioeconomic factors such as income and education.

Eating red meat and driving cars explain almost all of the 6.5-9.5% difference in pollution that remains after also accounting for men eating more calories and travelling longer distances, the researchers said. They found no gender gap from flying.

Mark Carney’s bulky and performative cabinet

Change is hard – Prime Minister Mark Carney is finding that out. His second cabinet is a departure from his first cabinet, which in turn was a departure from all of Justin Trudeau‘s cabinets. The new PM went from 37 ministers (including Mr. Trudeau) to 24 ministers (including Mr. Carney), and is now back up to 29 including Mr. Carney, with another 10 secretaries of state, which adds up to 39, surpassing Mr. Trudeau’s final cabinet. Mr. Carney has departed from his departure.

What, exactly, are Alberta separatists mad about?

Threats of Alberta separation go back decades, and have reached new heights since the April election of Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The separatist Alberta Prosperity Project is gunning for 600,000 signatures on a petition that would force a provincial referendum on the issue, while the Republican Party of Alberta — led by longtime conservative operative Cameron Davies — is ramping up its separation push.

“What we’re looking at is the broken and dysfunctional system that has been in place since Alberta joined Confederation,” Davies, who recently resigned from membership in the governing United Conservative Party, told CBC News.

Carney inexplicably insults King Charles and President Trump

Carney says Canadians ‘weren’t impressed’ by U.K.’s offer of second state visit to Trump

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canadians “weren’t impressed” when the U.K. decided to offer U.S. President Donald Trump an unprecedented second state visit while he was threatening Canada’s sovereignty.

“To be frank, they weren’t impressed by that gesture, quite simply, given the circumstance,” Carney told British news channel Sky News in an interview posted online Wednesday.

“It was at a time when we were being quite clear, some of us were being quite clear, about the issues around sovereignty.”

That was a stupid move by Carney.

White South Africans going to US are cowards, Ramaphosa says

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called a group of 59 white South Africans who have moved to the US to resettle “cowards”, saying “they’ll be back soon”.

The group of Afrikaners arrived in the US on Monday after President Donald Trump granted them refugee status, saying they faced racial discrimination.

But Ramaphosa said those who wanted to leave were not happy with efforts to address the inequities of the apartheid past, terming their relocation a “sad moment for them”.

Mark Carney’s cabinet change is a mirage

From a distance, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new cabinet looks like change.

It’s structured differently; there are 28 full ministers and 10 secretaries of state, the latter of whom will have smaller departments, smaller salaries and will only occasionally sit at the cabinet table.

There are new faces; more than half of the people comprising this cabinet have never been ministers in the federal government.

Zelensky ‘will only negotiate peace deal with Putin’ in Istanbul

President Zelensky will meet only with President Putin in Istanbul for direct talks on the war, a Ukrainian presidential adviser has said.

“Only Putin can decide whether the war continues or ends. That’s indisputable,” Mykhailo Podolyak told Russian opposition journalists, ruling out talks between Zelensky and Russian ministers or negotiators.

“We understand how power is structured in Russia,” Podolyak said. “It’s clear that even people with formal ministerial status — or even someone like [the prime minister, Mikhail] Mishustin — are unlikely to be authorised to make key decisions.”

The United States will remove all sanctions from Syria, Donald Trump announced on Tuesday.

”It’s their time to shine. We’re taking them all off,” Trump said, “Good luck Syria, show us something very special.”
