Danielle Smith’s reform is nudging Alberta separation vote from ‘if’ toward ‘when’

One hundred and seventy-seven thousand people.

That’s roughly 3.5 per cent of Alberta’s population. It’s also the amount of signatures that will be needed to force a separation referendum designed to take those five million people and their land out of Canada.

Alberta independence groups had already been gathering online registrants who were keen to add their names to a petition drive when the law required far more Albertans — around 600,000 — to sign up to trigger a constitutional referendum.

Bad news for America doomers

Europeans wish-cast US decline

It’s once more springtime for America doomers, those who believe the United States will soon lose its global top-dog status. Much of this is in reaction to the poorly considered ramblings of President Trump. The Economist, for example, suggests that “the actual land of the free” has moved from America to Europe, with the Continent epitomizing “moral norms” on the climate, free trade, and rule of law.

These prophecies — or dreams — of America’s downfall conflate the United States, a people and place, with the US government. The difference between the two things isn’t well-understood, especially in Europe. Whoever controls the White House and Congress has an effect, to be sure, but the true power of America lies not with its elected leaders, but in the ambitions of its people, its remarkable physical endowment, and the constraints of its constitutional order (Trump is learning about that last — to his chagrin).

Canada Blocked DEA Request to Investigate Massive Toronto Carfentanil Seizure for Terror Links

WASHINGTON — A former top U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration official has come forward with explosive allegations that Canadian authorities obstructed a high-level DEA investigation into a 42-kilogram carfentanil seizure tied to a 2018 mass shooting in Toronto and, according to senior U.S. investigators, potentially linked to Pakistani threat networks and Chinese chemical precursor suppliers.

The DEA learned, after 29-year-old Faisal Hussain’s shooting rampage on Danforth Avenue—which left two people dead and thirteen more wounded—that his brother and a network with Pakistani links were connected to a historic seizure of carfentanil, a synthetic opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl, in September 2017. The drugs were discovered in a suburban Pickering home, alongside specialized equipment consistent with a transnational trafficking operation.

Transgender footballer broke knee of female opponent and scored five goals in one match

A transgender footballer was accused of leaving a female player with a season-ending injury, illustrating the consequences of the FA’s now-abandoned policy of inclusion.

Trans woman Francesca Needham was said to have accidentally broken the knee of an opponent who blocked her shot during a match in October 2023.

But rival players are said to have feared for their safety in matches against her, and at least four teams in the Sheffield women’s league boycotted games in response.

The white Afrikaners lining up to accept Trump’s offer of asylum

Witkruis or Plaasmoorde Monument South Africa

Kyle believed God was looking out for him when he survived a violent farm robbery in South Africa eight years ago with only a black eye and broken ribs. The robbers failed to get the kettle and iron working, so were unable to burn anyone. Then the gun trigger jammed when they tried to shoot Kyle in the spine.

“They specifically said they were coming back for this farm … [that] it was their land,” said the 43-year-old, who did not want to use his full name. “Only afterwards, we found out that the guy that stays on the plot was actually killed … the farmhand … I don’t know what his name was.”

Kyle, a divorced father of three, is one of thousands of white South Africans hoping to take up Donald Trump’s offer of refugee status, to escape crime and what they allege is discrimination against white people.

With less than 1% of the vote, does the People’s Party of Canada have a future?

Four years ago, the People’s Party of Canada was poised to be a thorn in the Conservative Party’s side.

Riding the momentum of its anti-vaccine, anti-lockdown, anti-immigration agenda during the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, the young party won five per cent of the national vote.

It peeled supporters away from other parties — in particular, a more moderate Conservative Party led by Erin O’Toole — and found new ones who felt disenfranchised by the country’s traditional political system.

It will if the CPC decides fratricide is the way forward.

Records show secret oaths signed to shield Liberals from embarrassment during vaccine procurement

Canada’s top public health officials, including Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam, were among dozens of federal managers required to sign secrecy pledges during the pandemic that barred them from disclosing information that could cause embarrassment to the Liberal cabinet, newly released documents reveal.

Access To Information records show that at least 29 managers across multiple departments — including Public Health, Foreign Affairs, Health, Industry, and National Defence — signed the confidential agreements.

‘Multi-parent’ families, like throuples, to be granted legal rights in Quebec

A recent court ruling in Quebec has granted multi-parental families in the province the same legal rights as any other unit.

A Quebec Superior Court judge ruled on Friday that limiting the legal affiliation of children to one or two parents is unconstitutional.

Lawyer Marc-André Landry, who represented one of the families involved in the case, explains the ruling does not apply to step-parents or other “modern” families that are formed after a child is born.

Nothing new under the sun really.

Gobsmacking DOGE Revelations on Watters Last Night and ‘Big Balls’ Speaks

I have to say that was one of the best hours I’ve ever had glued to the tube.

We watch Jesse Watters every night – he really is pretty entertaining – but we had no idea that the little secret assignment he’d alluded to when explaining his absence was going to make for such an informative, infuriating, and inspiring installment of his show.
