Hey big spender Mark Carney, poised for economic and fiscal disaster

The Liberals won the federal election on Monday partly as a result of the perception that Prime Minister Mark Carney will move his government back to the political centre and be more responsible with taxpayer dollars. But in fact, according to his fiscal plan, he doesn’t think his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, was spending and borrowing enough.

To recap, the Trudeau government recorded 10 consecutive budget deficits, racked up $1.1-trillion in debt and recorded the six highest-spending years (per person, adjusted for inflation) in Canadian history from 2018 to 2023. Last fall, it projected large deficits (and $400-billion in additional debt) over the next four years, including a $42.2-billion deficit this fiscal year.

We Told People Not to Have Kids — Now We’re Surprised They Listened

For the better part of five decades, we told Americans — implicitly and explicitly — that children were a burden. We built a culture that prizes career over commitment, convenience over continuity, and freedom from ties over the joys of rootedness. We told women that motherhood was a trap, that marriage could wait (or be skipped entirely), and that the future would take care of itself. Now, with birthrates scraping historic lows, we act shocked. We clutch our pearls, roll out baby bonuses, and pretend this was all some mysterious accident of economics.

It wasn’t. It was a choice — repeated, reinforced, and rewarded at every level of modern society.

‘He loves us and he’s doing it’: Trump fans’ faith undimmed by first 100 days

In Trump they trust. While pundits and protesters have called it 100 days of hell, talk to Donald Trump’s most faithful supporters and you will hear them use words such as “amazing”, “fantastic” and “ecstatic” about his presidency.

The Trump base, that amorphous group that has long intrigued pollsters, remains rock solid in its support for the 78-year-old and quite ingenious in finding new ways to eulogise his leadership.

Interviews with 10 Trump fans at a campaign-style rally in Warren, Michigan, on Tuesday seemed to occupy a different planet from opinion polls that give him the lowest 100-day job approval rating of any president in the past 80 years.

I think the author is so sophisticated he no longer understands anything.

JAY GOLDBERG: Turning ‘elbows up’ into real policy results will be Carney’s challenge

With Canada’s 2025 election campaign now over, Canadians can breathe a sigh of relief that we no longer have to hear Mike Myers and Prime Minister Mark Carney give us our daily TV reminder to keep our “elbows up” against U.S. President Donald Trump.

Carney largely rode on a wave of anti-Trump sentiment to earn a fourth consecutive Liberal term in government.

‘May Day’ Celebrated Worldwide as Death Toll from Communism Approaches 100 Million

May 1st was long ago appropriated by communism as its worldwide holiday and, unfortunately, the civilized world has yet to take it back. The latest murders by Marxist regimes bring the death toll from communism ever closer to 100 million, but there are still marches in celebration of the ideology everywhere, including American cities.

Will Canadian PM Carney Maintain His Anti-Trump Messaging Post-Election?

Prime Minister Mark Carney was elected after running a campaign heavily focused on saying U.S. President Donald Trump poses an existential threat to Canada, but it remains to be seen whether this messaging will continue now that the election has passed.

The Liberals tapped heavily into rising nationalist sentiment in Canada, caused by Trump’s talk of making the country the 51st U.S. state and by the imposition of three different sets of tariffs on its largest trading partner.

Trump Signs Executive Order to End Tax Money for ‘Radical, Woke’ PBS and NPR

Late on Thursday night, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to cut taxpayer funds to PBS and NPR through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The text was posted on the Trump team’s “Rapid Response 47” account on X.

It said: “@POTUS just signed an executive order ENDING the taxpayer subsidization of NPR and PBS — which receive millions from taxpayers to spread radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news.’”

Trump disliked Trudeau – why Carney may fare better

The victory-party din for Mark Carney and his Liberal Party had only just faded when Donald Trump chimed in with a less than ringing endorsement of the winners.

“It was the one that hated Trump, I think, the least that won,” the US president said on Wednesday of Carney, whose party had just retained power by winning a near outright majority of the seats in Canada’s general election.

The Canadian prime minister may accept being the lesser of two evils in Trump’s mind, however. The US president also said that he thinks the former Bank of England governor “couldn’t have been nicer” in the first post-election phone conversation.

Hoary Old Commie slams New Democrat party for ‘absolutely disastrous campaign’

OTTAWA—Former NDP MP Charlie Angus says the party ran an “absolutely disastrous campaign” that “missed the moment” and focused too much on leader Jagmeet Singh, as more New Democrats leave the door open to leadership bids.

The scathing assessment — from a prominent New Democrat who placed second in the 2017 leadership race that catapulted Singh to the party’s top job — came as the NDP caucus was set to meet Thursday to discuss its next steps following the party’s worst-ever election result.

I tricked Maga supporters into paying for my degree

Q Preston garnered tens of thousands of dollars from Trump voters with a deceptive tweet. She does not regret her ‘ethical scam’

Two years into President Trump’s first term, Q Preston posted her grievances on Twitter. An African-American Trump supporter, she was tired of the notion that “black” and “Maga” did not belong in the same sentence.

On her Twitter account @chckpea, Preston shared a picture of herself in a Make America Great Again bucket hat and declared she would hide her views no longer.

Prince Harry loses security appeal

The Duke of Sussex has lost his appeal against the Government over his security.

Prince Harry argued that he was singled out for “unjustified and inferior treatment” when he was denied the right to automatic police protection in the UK.

He flew to London last month to attend a two-day hearing at the Court of Appeal, during which his barrister argued that the Home Office committee responsible for VIP security arrangements had failed to adhere to its own policies.

London more dangerous than LA?
