BROWN: If you like Ford’s Ontario, you’ll love Carney’s Canada

This is it. Canada’s federal election is Monday, and it’s vitally important that Canadians are made aware of the threat that they’re up against at the ballot box: a Carney-Ford alliance that’s not just a betrayal of both Conservative and classical Liberal values, but a potential death knell for Canada’s recovery.

This may well be our last shot to stop the decline, so let’s not mince words.

Mark Carney is about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Canadians have been able to watch the Liberal leader up close during the election campaign. Many don’t like what they see

Monday will bring an end to one of the most volatile election campaigns in Canada’s history. The conclusion could potentially be even more astonishing. Liberal prime minister Mark Carney may be about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

On some levels, it shouldn’t even be close. Pierre Poilievre and the Canadian Conservatives had maintained a huge lead in the polls for over two years. The gap with the Liberals had extended to 20 or more points as recently as February, presaging a landslide victory for Poilievre.

Fury at ‘disrespectful’ mourners taking selfies with the Pope’s corpse

Mourners who flocked to the Pope’s lying-in-state on Wednesday have blasted ghoulish social media users for snapping selfies next to his open casket.

After passing away aged 88 on Easter Monday, Francis’ body has been carried into Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City for the three-day ritual.

Around 50,000 faithful have paid respects to the late Pontiff, but some sparked fury after posting macabre selfies which saw Francis’ body laid out in robes in a wooden coffin in the background.

Honorary Doctorates for Hamas’s Favorite “Fig Leaves”? Universities Have Officially Lost the Plot

Oh, academia, you never cease to amaze. Just when you think the ivory tower couldn’t sink any lower into the swamp of performative virtue, along comes Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) in Halifax, gleefully tossing honorary doctorates at Judy and Larry Haiven like confetti at a woke wedding. Why, you ask? For their “pro-Palestine work” through Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV), a group that’s less about Jewish voices and more about providing a flimsy fig leaf for some of the most unsavory characters in the anti-Israel circus. Buckle up, folks—this one’s a masterclass in how to make your university look pathetic while exposing a deeper rot in education.

Zelensky and Trump hold ‘potentially historic’ meeting in St Peter’s Basilica

Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Donald Trump for a “potentially historic” one-on-one meeting in St Peter’s Basilica on the sidelines of Pope Francis’s funeral.

The two leaders met for private talks amid speculation “funeral diplomacy” could bring a breakthrough on their differences over ending the war in Ukraine.

They were pictured hunched over and facing each other on two simple red chairs inside the Italian high renaissance church, moments before the ceremony began.

These are the top 10 ridings to watch in Toronto and the GTA

If Mark Carney is to lead his Liberal Party to its fourth straight term in government, seats in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area will form the backbone of his win.

There are 55 ridings up for grabs between the 416 and 905, home to an estimated 4.5 million eligible voters.

Toronto and the GTA have been dominated by the Liberals in every election since 2015. Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party will need to chip away at that dominance to have any hope of winning enough seats nationwide to form government.

3 Toronto women wanted after a spree of sexual assaults and thefts in Scarborough

Gypsy Queen is Happy

Toronto police say they are searching for three female suspects accused of sexually assaulting victims at businesses in Scarborough in an attempt to distract them and steal their cash.

In a news release issued Friday, police say the same three suspects are believed to be responsible for at least five incidents that occurred at commercial businesses in Scarborough over a period of 10 months.

All of the suspects were described by police as having “olive skin” and “long black hair.” Police said two of the women had a “medium build” and the third had a “thin build.”

Trump is winning the global energy game

The Trump administration is full of contradictions. Last Tuesday, the US President said that while some movement might be possible, high tariffs will remain on most Chinese goods. On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that US tariffs on China are unsustainable.

GUNTER: Carney’s borrowing plans would sink affordability for Canadians

Taxpayers can’t hope that any of the major parties in Monday’s election will balance the budget soon, not even the Conservatives.

Indeed, in most Western democracies politicians of all stripes have given up on the idea of making expenditures equal revenues. The best that can be hoped for is reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio.

Conclave explained: What happens next after the Pope’s funeral?

The days between the death of a Pope and the election of his successor are packed with centuries-old ceremonies and rituals, following a timetable intended to find a new pontiff within three weeks.

Tradition begins at the moment of the Pope’s death, as an official given the title camerlengo, or chamberlain, calls out the Pope’s name three times at his bedside to ensure he has died.

His next task is to deface and smash the pescatorio, or “ring of the fisherman”, which symbolises papal authority and was once used as a seal on official documents.

MANDEL: Ontario must cover U.S. surgery for trans patient who wants a vagina — and to keep her penis

Behold your tax dollars at work. OHIP has been ordered, for the third time, to pay for an out-of-country surgery for an Ontario trans, nonbinary patient who wants to keep the P while she gets the V.

The provincial insurer argued that vaginoplasty is a listed, insured gender-affirming service — but only if it came along with the usual removal of the person’s existing penis. But K.S., who doesn’t identify as exclusively male or female, wanted to have both.
