Scientists find strongest evidence yet of life on an alien planet

In a potential landmark discovery, scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have obtained what they call the strongest signs yet of possible life beyond our solar system, detecting in an alien planet’s atmosphere the chemical fingerprints of gases that on Earth are produced only by biological processes.

The two gases – dimethyl sulfide, or DMS, and dimethyl disulfide, or DMDS – involved in Webb’s observations of the planet named K2-18 b are generated on Earth by living organisms, primarily microbial life such as marine phytoplankton – algae.

This suggests the planet may be teeming with microbial life, the researchers said. They stressed, however, that they are not announcing the discovery of actual living organisms but rather a possible biosignature – an indicator of a biological process – and that the findings should be viewed cautiously, with more observations needed.

Chicken nuggets grown in lab for first time

Japanese scientists have grown chicken nuggets in a lab in a world first.

They invented a process that mimics blood vessels to allow cells to grow in layers of muscle tissue, in a breakthrough that could finally lead to realistic engineered meat.

Currently, lab-grown chicken is made using sheets of cells less than 1mm thick that then need to be processed into something resembling meat, or minced, leading to an unrealistic texture.

Carney Capitulates: Canada Waives Retaliatory Tariffs On US-Made Cars And Trucks

The first skirmish in the US-China trade war just concluded and Mark Carney is left licking his wounds.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government will allow automakers to import US-manufactured cars and trucks without tariffs, as long as the companies continue to build cars in Canada, and continued with previously announced expansions. Which of course, they all will vow to do – after all, there is no downside to a promise – meaning Canada just conceded to a key Trump demands.

Israeli military rescue spaniel stolen by Hamas

Billy The Spaniel

A Cavalier King Charles spaniel feared abducted by Hamas in the Oct 7 attacks has been rescued in Gaza 18 months later.

The female dog, called Billy, is reported to have run towards Israeli troops operating in the southern city of Rafah after hearing them speaking Hebrew.

The three-year-old pet belongs to Rachel Dancyg, whose ex-husband Alex Dancyg was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz and murdered in captivity.

Debate round-up

Debate round-up

Not exactly a civil war but Carney did not carry the day simply by not doing a face plant as some in our media insist. He came across as stiff and devious frankly.

New poll shows Liberals riding ‘fear’ vote, Tories winning ‘hope,’ as gap narrows slightly

OTTAWA — The election is playing out as a story of hopeful Conservative voters versus fearful Liberal voters, according to a new Postmedia-Leger poll.

Three-quarters of Canadians who plan to vote Conservative said the emotion guiding them is “primarily a hope for a better future in Canada to live, work, and raise a family.”

By contrast, six in 10 Liberal voters said they were motivated primarily by “a fear of what the future holds for Canada,” with the unpredictable U.S. President Donald Trump threatening trade relations.

New – Abacus Data Poll: Liberal lead down to 2

Overall, the data suggest that the Liberal lead has narrowed to just two points nationally (40% Liberal vs. 38% Conservative), down from a six-point advantage two weeks ago.

I wonder if a “Shy” Poilievre vote is lurking within the electorate undetected by pollsters.

‘I’ll always be a Conservative,’ Ford says after defending campaign manager’s comments on Pierre Poilievre

Premier Doug Ford says he was “standing up for a friend” when he defended his long-time campaign strategist who recently made critical comments about federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in a string of media interviews.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ford was asked about the backlash he has faced from some Conservative voters who are unhappy with the comments the premier made when defending his campaign manager Kory Teneycke.

“What I was doing is standing up for a friend, a campaign manager that brought three consecutive majority governments,” Ford said Wednesday.

Letitia ‘No One Is Above The Law’ James Accused Of Doing Exactly What She Prosecuted Trump For

After spending months theatrically chasing President Donald Trump over allegedly inflating property values to secure favorable loan terms (with no actual victims, mind you), James now finds herself the target of a federal criminal referral for — wait for it — allegedly misrepresenting property details to secure favorable loan terms.

In February 2024, James celebrated the $450 million penalty against President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization in a civil fraud case in which there were no victims.

Canada still outside US$1B NATO innovation fund—a year after committing to join

Canada remains on the sidelines of a US$1-billion NATO venture capital fund aimed at backing next-generation defence technology, The Logic has confirmed, despite the federal government’s promise to join the effort one year ago.

Launched in 2022, the 24-member NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) invests in companies developing defence-related technologies in areas like quantum computing, AI and hypersonic systems. The Liberal government under Justin Trudeau had said it would join the fund, and in April 2024 said it had allocated $107 million to NIF over 20 years as part of its “renewed vision for Canada’s defence.”

If it doesn’t involve Trannies they won’t bother.

JD Vance says what needs to be said about illegal aliens and due process

We here at American Thinker have noted that the current Democrat plan regarding illegal aliens is to force them into the legal system to run out the clock. Now, Vice President Vance has chimed in to make the same point. (And no, much as I’d like to think it’s true, he probably hasn’t been reading American Thinker. Instead, what he says is common sense.)

Women exist. Get over it!

The UK Supreme Court has just confirmed what anyone with a grasp on reality has always known: that women are adult human females. In a unanimous and refreshingly rational judgement, the justices in For Women Scotland Ltd vs The Scottish Ministers make clear that the word ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 means exactly what it says – male and female, as determined by biology. It’s a landmark victory for women’s rights, and a resounding humiliation for the Scottish ministers who thought they could rewrite reality.

Geoff Russ: Liberals are the party of grey hair and wealth

We have two Canadas, two peoples and two solitudes, but unlike in years past, they are not the product of race, religion or language.

For Canadians with grey hair, property and growing pensions, it’s usually a joy to live here. A life of affordable property, upward mobility and the promise of valuable assets was their minimum expectation, and most exceeded it. For those under 35, this is verging on a pipe dream.
