The women who help men abuse other women

Victims of Mohamed Fayed, the late owner of Harrods, speak of a familiar pattern: they would be plucked from obscurity, promoted from a job on the shop floor to the offices above, invited to Fayed’s luxury apartment and sexually assaulted or raped.

More than 100 women have made allegations against the Egyptian billionaire, whose alleged campaign of abuse is said to have spanned back to the 1970s. Ex-employees speak of Fayed’s behaviour as an open secret within Harrods: some say he was known to patrol the shop floor on the lookout for attractive young women to target.

One-third of Westerners support independence, joining US — if Liberals win federal election

A new Angus Reid poll shows support for Western independence remains significant, with many respondents indicating the outcome of the federal election is a significant factor.

About 30% of Albertans and 33% of Saskatchewanians said they would leave Canada if Mark Carney and the Liberals win the federal election on April 28 — otherwise, the numbers drop to 25% and 20% respectively.

But …

Jamie Sarkonak: Alberta independence is a pipe dream

Separated from Canada, we’d be a landlocked economic basket case

Scientists perform world’s first de-extinction to revive the dire wolf that vanished 12,000 years ago

Scientists have announced the first de-extinction of an animal species, reintroducing the dire wolf back into the world.

Colossal Biosciences, a genetic engineering company, birthed three dire wolves, naming them Romulus, Remus and Khaleesi in honor of the legendary creature made famous from the HBO hit series Game of Thrones.

However, the white-coated wolf once roamed North and South America before vanishing around 12,000 years ago likely to the disappearance of their prey.

Next … Meet your new Neanderthal neighbor.

“It’s not racist to take sovereignty seriously”—U.S. Border Patrol Agent Vincent ‘Rocco’ Vargas

Vincent “Rocco” Vargas was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to serve three combat deployments with the 2nd Battalion of the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. In 2009 Vargas became a Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security, and was a medic with the Special Operations Group. After temporarily leaving his federal career for film and television, he returned to the Border Patrol’s Strategic Planning and Analysis Directorate (SPAD) in March 2025—while continuing to work with veterans, and as a writer,  entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He runs the popular Borderland and VinnyRoc podcasts.

Vincent Vargas is a giant of a man who fills the screen from his home ‘operations room’ throughout our interview. He refuels on protein bars as we talk, while making it clear just how plausible he was as an army sergeant (in real life) or as the Capitan Del Camino of a fictional outlaw biker gang (on Mayans M.C.). His fame acquired from appearing in films and on TV also guaranteed publicity for his SPAD appointment. While good-humoured—and slightly disappointed he can’t also offer me a protein bar—it’s clear he is entirely serious about going back into homeland security. Could he really be giving up acting to concentrate on a real-life role in Border Patrol?

You said something nice about Trump you Hitler Lover! “A network of X accounts is targeting Canada ahead of the election”

A network of X accounts is “artificially” amplifying misinformation about Canada’s economy and leadership, according to a report shared with The Logic from digital threat research group Reset Tech.

A coordinated campaign from these accounts spread false stories about businesses decamping for the U.S. as a result of Canada’s alleged economic decline, as well as Canadian support for Donald Trump’s goal to annex the country. The network, which is made up of 73 accounts and “likely hundreds more,” shares material from U.S. right wing sites, as well as Toronto-based Canada Free Press and Montreal-based Post Millennial.

Poilievre promises to stop endless environmental reviews for large infrastructure projects

OTTAWA — Pierre Poilievre said a Conservative government would complete environmental assessments of major infrastructure projects within one year and push through approval of 10 pending major resource projects.

If the Conservatives are elected on April 28, Poilievre said Monday that the days of innumerable environmental reviews by multiple governments and endless waiting for large infrastructure projects to be approved would be over.

Why ‘Liberation Day’ Frightened Democrats

Trump’s tariff policy has the potential to solidify Republican dominance for decades.

Anyone foolish enough to take seriously the rhetoric of the Democrats concerning the reciprocal tariffs announced by President Trump on “Liberation Day” will experience two sensations — dread and confusion. This unpleasant combination was inevitable due to the strident denunciation of tariffs by a political party whose presidents have routinely deployed them in the recent past. President Obama, for example, imposed a 35 percent tariff on Chinese tires and President Biden deployed a 25 percent tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum. Yet the voters are now expected to believe the Trump tariffs will somehow plunge us into a recession or something akin to the Great Depression.

Poilievre needs to ‘bomb the bridge’ of Carney’s credibility to win one of Canada’s ‘most consequential’ elections, say political players

As one of the “most consequential” election campaigns enters its third week, the Liberals are leading in the polls, and if the Conservatives hope to win, they will need to seriously undermine Mark Carney’s credibility—much like Brian Mulroney’s Tories did to John Turner’s Liberals in the 1988 campaign.

“Remember, in 1988, the Tories said that they had to bomb the bridge on John Turner,” said Greg Lyle, president of Innovative Research, in an interview with The Hill Times. “Well, the job of the Tories in 2025 is to bomb the bridge of Carney’s credibility.”

China actively promoting Carney Liberal campaign: Election watchdog

OTTAWA — Canada’s election security watchdog has accused the Chinese government of promoting Liberal Leader Mark Carney in what it’s calling an “information operation” taking place on Chinese-language social media.

In a Monday morning press conference, Laurie-Anne Kempton, of the Privy Council Office, said the operation is currently being undertaken by Youli-Youmian — the most popular news site on the WeChat social media platform.

The “moderate Muslims” and the “handful of extremists”

Forceful expression is required to correct the pernicious erosion the English language has been subjected to of late, in an onslaught that can only be described as linguistic vandalism, all in the service of rendering language a “safe space” in which lies may be dressed up as truth and truth vilified as lies, victims may be presented as perpetrators and perpetrators may masquerade as victims. The impact of this vandalism on the English language is far-reaching.

This Nonprofit Got $22 Million in Government Grants to Teach Kids About Sex Toys

For nearly a decade, the federal government has funded a nonprofit group that works to educate minors about sex toys, while discouraging them from telling their parents about it. The Center for Innovative Public Health Research has received more than $22 million in federal money since 2016. According to its website, the group creates “health education programs” that “promote positive human development.” But the content of those programs—and the comments of the organization’s CEO, Michele Ybarra—suggest that CIPHR’s “human development” goals are anything but positive.

The Canadian Who’s Donald Trump’s Oldest Enemy

In a parenthetical buried in his new memoir, Graydon Carter recounts the story of how his 1984 GQ cover story of Donald Trump — which sold well on newsstands — convinced Condé Nast owner Si Newhouse to publish The Art of the Deal. That book led to The Apprentice, which led to the second half of Trump’s career as media personality and then president.

“As they say, a butterfly’s wings,” Carter writes.

Qatar’s Muslim ‘Scholars’ Call For Death And Destruction

While Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing death and destruction as a result of the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, the Qatar-based International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), an association of extremist Islamic theologians affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, has issued a fatwa (Islamic ruling) calling for jihad (holy war) against Israel.

The IUMS, a largely Sunni group founded in 2004, consists of some 95,000 Muslim “scholars” globally and 67 Islamic organizations. It included among its members the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, killed by Israel in an explosion last year in Iran.
